Abstract

The disposable endoscope sheath (10) includes a low profile sleeve member (12) that cooperates with the endoscope shaft (36) to establish a relatively narrow irrigation space (86) between the sleeve member (12) and the endoscope shaft (36). The sleeve member (12) is intentionally shorter than the endoscope shaft (36) to accommodate a variety of different endoscope lengths that are longer than the sleeve. In various embodiments of the invention the sleeve member (12) can be positioned to establish a predetermined distal gap (100) between the terminal end (94) of the sleeve member (12) and the viewing end of the endoscope shaft (36). Irrigation fluid can thus flow accross the viewing end of the endoscope flushing away any surgical debris from the viewing end.
