- implants of this type are already known, which conventionally comprise two support elements on the overlying and underlying vertebral plates, and a means for varying the distance between these support elements and thus adjusting the implant at the required height depending on the patient's spinal morphology.

- a major drawback of this known implant is that the rotating member must be moved around an axis substantially parallel to the axis of the spine. This is extremely tedious to bring the implant to the desired height, because the tool used to rotate this organ can, taking into account the patient's environment, only a small fraction of a complete revolution , and must then be maneuvered many times to reach the desired height. This is all the more so since the thread pitch is imperatively small to generate the axial force necessary for distraction, without however risking producing a slip between the support elements and the overlying and underlying vertebral plates.
- the main object of the present invention is to overcome this drawback, and to propose a vertebral body replacement implant which is easier to handle for its positioning and for operating distraction, and which moreover is endowed with excellent stability against axial compression forces to which it will be exposed.
