Abstract

Methods and apparatus for selecting a channel in a digital transmission system are described. In one implementation, the selecting of a channel includes: receiving a major and a minor channel number sequence in which a delimiter separates the major number from the minor number (502); identifying a physical channel which corresponds to the received channel number sequence by accessing a channel lookup table (505); identifying a virtual channel which corresponds to the received channel number sequence using an identified virtual channel table (505, 510); tuning a receiver to the identified physical channel (515); and decoding the identified virtual channel from the tuned signal (520).
