- a digital image is the subject of operations such as binarization, removal of the isolated black pixels, such operations being intended to reduce the size of the computer file corresponding to the digital image.
- an automatic character recognition algorithm is applied to the digital IP image in order to identify in this image the recipient address of the corresponding postal packet. More particularly, such an algorithm generally reduces the IP image to one or more areas of interest, and then extracts from these areas of interest character strings, before analyzing these character strings by comparing them for example with a database, to identify the recipient address of the postal packet.
- postal packets include a large amount of information, so that such an algorithm frequently fails because it fails to detect in the digital IP image of the packet the area of interest comprising the recipient address.

- the video coding operator displays a RE crosshair by pressing one of the buttons on the JS joystick or a function key on the CL keyboard, then places the RE crosshair in the center of the addressee address, by operating the JS joystick, so that the rectangle RC of the reticle RE surrounds said address, before confirming his choice by pressing the fire button BT of the JS joystick.

- the video coding station according to the invention is particularly intended for sorting bulky postal objects, for which it makes it possible to carry out semi-automatic processing in a very short time because it minimizes the amount of handling by the video coding operator through the use of an adjustable joystick.
