Abstract

A method and system for digital rights management is disclosed. The method and system utilize standalone certificates linked with hardware profiles to provide an efficient mechanism for digital rights management. A method for digital rights management includes receiving content at a client computer. The content is encrypted with an encryption key. The method further includes the client computer requesting the encryption key from a digital rights management (DRM) server using a digital certificate, the server receiving the request and the DRM server determining if the digital certificate is valid. The DRM server is remote from the client computer.
