Definitions
- the invention relates to a resilient foot insert for an artificial foot.
- a jointless prosthetic foot with a spring-elastic foot insert that receives and transmits the prosthesis loads is e.g. in DE 40 37 928 A1 and EP 0 648 479 A1.
- Elastic foot inserts are also shown in US Pat. Nos. 4,959,073, 5,549,771 and 5,800,570, EP 0 884 033 A2 and DE 298 20 904 U1.
- the invention is based on the object of developing a resilient foot insert for a prosthetic foot which has a progressive ankle torque curve, has an energy-storing effect and permits elastic ML (medial / lateral) mobility.
- a resilient foot insert for an artificial foot consisting of at least two interconnected springs which, in the unloaded state, together enclose an approximately triangular spring space in side view, the upper, approximately roof-shaped spring in the roof top area having an adapter connection and the like starting with a concave downward heel leg that extends into the heel area (hereinafter “heel spring”) and a concave downward leg extension that extends into the forefoot area (hereinafter “forefoot spring”), the free leg ends with a separate, Bending-resistant base spring bounding downward deflection space is connected, which interacts with a rolling contour in such a way that the force is initially introduced in the ball area at the beginning of the forefoot load during the rolling process,
- the forefoot spring and base spring are designed in terms of shape and elasticity so that the forefoot and base springs successively bend against each other in this area under the influence of an increasing load in the forefoot area.
- This foot insert is characterized according to the invention by such a design of the forefoot spring and base spring in shape and elasticity that with increasing load in the forefoot area there is a gradual contact of the forefoot and base springs in this area.
- the forefoot spring brings about this successive attachment to the
- the force is initially applied in the ball area, whereby the base spring is mounted between the heel and forefoot springs and undergoes a three-point bend. There is then a series connection of the bending stiffness of the forefoot and base springs (see also the illustration in FIG. 6). As the step continues, the foot rolls and increasingly loads the forefoot spring directly. The base spring also supports the moments in the forefoot spring and is now bent in the opposite direction. There is a parallel connection of the bending stiffness (see also the illustration in FIG. 7). The process of the forefoot load is thus characterized by increasing stiffening or progression of the spring behavior.
- the contact points of the prosthetic foot with the floor or shoe determine the location of the force application. This has an impact on the biomechanics of the foot, but also controls the load on the mechanical structures of the foot. Since the foot experiences an angular movement during the stance phase, the force application point can be controlled by a suitable rolling geometry. It is irrelevant whether this geometry in the shape of the base spring is integrated (see, for example, FIG. 4), is applied to the base spring (see FIG. 5) or is an expression of the surrounding cosmetic case (see FIG. 1). In all these cases, the base spring interacts with a rolling contour on the underside, which rises from the toe area to the ball area, then falls again upwards and is beaded in the heel area.
- the characteristics of the foot can be changed in a targeted manner by using base springs of different stiffnesses.
- the connections between the base spring and the two leg ends of the upper spring are designed to be detachable.
- ML movement can be generated by reducing the torsional rigidity of the forefoot spring. This can be achieved in that the forefoot spring has an elongated recess running in its longitudinal direction, or in that the forefoot spring is split into two partial springs in its longitudinal direction. This also enables different progression characteristics to be set for the inside and outside of the foot.
- the instantaneous pole of the ML rotation is above the ground level in a physiologically sensible manner, while rotation around the longitudinal axis of the leg is hardly possible.
- At least one of the springs preferably consists of one
- Polymer material which is expediently a fiber composite material.
- the force transmission into the springs can be done with a fiber composite material make it cheaper if the springs are designed individually, especially if parts of the adapter are part of one of the springs. It is therefore expedient for this if the forefoot spring and the heel spring form separate components which are connected to one another in the region of the adapter connection. It is then also advantageous if at least the cap of the adapter connection is an integral part of the forefoot spring. A construction that is particularly favorable with regard to the transmission of force is provided when the forefoot spring is supported in the region of its adapter connection on the upper leg end of the heel spring.
- the resilient foot insert is used to treat very low amputation heights, especially in the case of disarticulations in the ankle (see also the illustration in Figure 9), it is useful if the adapter connection is positioned anterior to the ankle area of a natural foot and one with the base spring has an acute angle enclosing connection surface. As a result, the space below the prosthesis socket can be used as a deflection space for the heel leg. With this attachment, the moments on the adapter between the heel and forefoot loads are more balanced and lower than with an attachment in the ankle area. The necessary structural strength is thus easier to achieve.
- Figure 1 in longitudinal section an artificial foot consisting of a spring-elastic foot insert, which is surrounded by a cosmetic cover;
- Figure 2 is a perspective view of a resilient foot insert
- Figure 3 is a top view of a resilient foot insert
- Figure 4 shows a side view of a resilient foot insert with a curved in the form of a rolling contour
- Figure 6 shows the elastic foot insert according to Figure 5 at the beginning of his forefoot load
- FIG. 7 shows the elastic foot insert according to FIG. 5 with a directly loaded forefoot spring
- FIG. 8 shows a resilient foot insert with a separately formed forefoot spring and heel spring and
- FIG. 9 shows a spring-elastic foot insert for supplying low amputation heights.
- Figure 1 shows a resilient foot insert for an artificial foot.
- the foot insert consists of an upper, approximately roof-shaped spring 1 which, together with a lower base spring 2, encloses an approximately triangular spring space 3.
- the upper spring 1 has an adapter connection 4 in its roof tip area, from which a heel spring 6 which is bent concavely downwards and extends to the heel area 5 and to the front has a forefoot spring 8 which is bent downwards and extends to the forefoot area 7 out.
- the front free leg end 8a of the forefoot spring 8 is connected to the front end 2a of the base spring 2, while the rear free leg end 6a of the heel spring 6 is connected to the rear end 2b of the base spring 2.
- the connections between the upper spring 1 and the base spring 2 can be designed as detachable connections 9, 10, as can be seen in FIG. 1. The base spring 2 can then be replaced.
- the adapter connection 4 lies approximately in the ankle area of a natural foot and has a connection surface 11 lying approximately parallel to the base spring 2.
- the adapter connection 4 comprises a spherical cap 12 and a truncated pyramid 13, the tip of which rests on the spherical cap 12.
- Figure 1 also shows that the resilient foot insert is surrounded by a cosmetic cover 14.
- the forefoot spring 8 has an elongated recess 15 running in its longitudinal direction.
- the essentially straight base spring 2 interacts with a rolling contour 16 formed by the underside of the cosmetic cover 14, which rises downwards from the toe region 17 of the artificial foot to the ball region 18 and then falls back upwards and is beaded in the heel region 5 is.
- the base spring 2 is bent directly in the form of the rolling contour 16.
- the rolling contour 16 is applied to the underside of the base spring 2 which is approximately straight in the longitudinal direction.
- the upper spring 1 of the foot insert is formed in one piece; the adapter connection 4 forms an integral part of this one-piece upper spring 1.
- heel spring 6 and forefoot spring 8 form separate components which are connected to one another in the region of the adapter connection 4.
- the adapter connection 4 forms an integral part of the separately formed forefoot spring 8, which is supported in the region of the adapter connection 4 on the upper, rearward bent leg end 6b of the heel spring 6, which is approximately C-shaped.
- FIG. 9 shows a spring-elastic foot insert which is intended for restorations with very low amputation heights, in particular for disarticulations in the ankle of the prosthesis wearer.
- the adapter connection 4 is positioned anterior to the ankle region of a natural foot compared to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-8 and has a connection surface 11 which forms an acute angle ⁇ with the base spring 2.
- the adapter connection comprises a spherical cap 12, which enables limited angle adjustments of the shaft 19 indicated by a dash-dotted line. This training leads to a large heel path 20.
