Description

Device at a flush-bolt
The present invention relates to an arrangement for an automatic flush bolt for pivotally mounted closing elements that are mounted in such a way as to pivot about a vertical pivot shaft and which comprises a bolt accommodated at the top and/or at the bottom in the aforementioned closing element that is capable of automatic actuation by a pivotally mounted falling plunger causing it to move vertically into a position in which the closing element is caused to close. Automatic flush bolts for doors are previously disclosed, in which a vertical moving bolt is caused to be displaced by the actuation of a pivotally mounted falling plunger arranged on the door leaf of one of the doors and then to lock the door.
However, previously disclosed solutions which operate in accordance with the aforementioned principle are cumbersome and are not suitable for use with doors where the dimensions are limited internally in the door leaf.
US 2,772,108 A relates to a door lock with a lock plunger (16) mounted about a vertical shaft (19) . Here the previously disclosed lock plunger (16) exhibits a bow-shaped curved actuating edge (17, 18) , although the purpose of the aforementioned edge is entirely different than that intended in accordance with the present invention.
Previously disclosed through US 5,024,472 A is a locking mechanism in which a bolt (60) is capable of being actuated so as to be capable of locking the door. The mechanism in this case comprises arms (14, 28) capable of actuation in different directions.
US 1,966,251 A relates to a door locking device with a curved lock plunger (14), while US 5,188,404 A and EP 0 505 350 Al show a double-curved plunger and a pivoting plunger respectively.
The present invention provides a solution to the problem of transmitting a motion through 90° from the side of a lock plunger to a further vertically moving lock plunger; and this is not previously disclosed and also cannot be regarded as being immediately obvious to a person skilled in the art .
The principal object of the present invention is thus, in the first instance, to solve the aforementioned problem in an effective, reliable and economic fashion with the help of a small number of reliably functioning parts, and to be able to transmit a rotary motion from the side through 90° on doors and other closing elements that are pivotally mounted about a vertical pivot shaft.
The aforementioned object is achieved by means of an arrangement in accordance with the present invention, which is characterized essentially in that the falling plunger is pivotally mounted about an essentially horizontal pivot shaft and exhibits a bow-shaped, curved actuating edge, in that the falling plunger exhibits a concave lateral surface that is bounded laterally by pairs of straight lateral edges, and in that the aforementioned pivoting falling plunger is attached via a pivot arm to the bolt or to a motion transfer mechanism capable of actuating it.
The invention is described below as a number of preferred illustrative embodiments, in conjunction with which reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a sectioned view of a flush bolt with its bolt in the retracted position and its falling plunger in the outward-curved position;
Fig. 2 shows a sectioned view across the flush bolt with the falling plunger shown with dash-dotted lines and solid lines respectively for the left and right falling plunger; Fig. 3 shows a flush bolt with a right falling plunger intended to be accommodated in a slot cut with a side-milling cutter and viewed from different directions; Fig. 4 shows a flush bolt with a left falling plunger and intended to be accommodated in a recess cut with a shank-end milling cutter;
Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a flush bolt with the falling plunger curved outwards;
Fig. 6 shows a right falling plunger viewed directly from the front;
Fig. 7 shows the falling plunger illustrated in Fig. 6 viewed directly from above;
Fig. 8 shows a milled recess for a flush bolt in a door leaf . An arrangement 1 for an automatic flush bolt 2 for pivotally mounted doors and other closing elements 3, such as windows, and which comprises a bolt 4 accommodated at the top and/or at the bottom in the aforementioned closing element 3, which bolt is capable of automatic actuation by a pivotally mounted falling plunger 5 causing it to move vertically 6 into a locking position SL for the aforementioned closing element in question, from a retracted open position OL, and which is illustrated in the drawings, enables a rotary motion to be transmitted from the side through 90° in the case of the closing element in question that is pivotally mounted about a vertical pivot shaft (not shown here) .
In accordance with the present invention, the aforementioned falling plunger 5, which is pivotally mounted about an essentially horizontal pivot shaft 7 in the event that the closing element 3 in question is mounted in such a way as to pivot about a vertical pivot shaft, exhibits a bow- shaped curved actuating edge 8. The aforementioned pivoting falling plunger 5 is also attached to the bolt 4 or to a motion transfer mechanism 9 capable of actuating it via a pivot arm 10. In accordance with the preferred illustrative embodiment of the invention, the flush bolt 2 is so arranged as to be applied where the closing element is formed by a passive door leaf 3 in double doors, and the falling plunger 5 is so arranged in this case as to be capable of actuation by an active door leaf, although this is not shown in the relevant drawings, in the aforementioned pair of double doors. In this case the falling plunger 5 exhibits a concave lateral surface 11, which is bounded laterally 12, 13 by pairs of straight lateral edges 14, 15, which extend directly from the mounting pivot shaft 7 of the falling plunger, although in different directions 16, 17, in conjunction with which the aforementioned curved bow-shaped actuating edge 8 extends between the outer ends 14A, 15A of the two aforementioned lateral edges. Viewed when the flush bolt 2 is held in a vertical position, as shown in the drawings in Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 5, the aforementioned bow-shaped curved actuating edge 8 extends upwards in a curved fashion from the outer end of one lateral edge, as clearly shown in the left- hand image in Figs. 3 and 4 respectively for a right-hand plunger 5 and a left-hand plunger 51.
Viewed when the falling plunger 5 is held in a position PB in which it is extended outwards from the flush bolt 2 and ready for actuation, for example when the second door leaf in a double door leaf is opened, the outer edge line 15 of one of the lateral edges extends essentially vertically, and the outer edge line 14 of the other lateral edge extends outwards from the pivot bearing shaft 7 at between 45-60° from the aforementioned vertical outer edge line 15.
The two lateral surfaces 18, 19 of the falling plunger 5 are flat, and each originates from its own bearing part, which may be in the form of bearing lugs 20, 21.
The aforementioned falling plunger 5 exhibits a triangular underside 22, which has a convex surface and a pointed nose part 23 at which the aforementioned actuating edge 8, the upper outer edge line 14 and a curved outer edge line 24 meet.
The pivot arm 10 is flexibly attached to the rear part 25 of the falling plunger via a pivot shaft 26. The aforementioned rear part of the falling plunger 5 can be in the form of an arm-like rear narrower extension 25 of the falling plunger 5 extending in the form of a nose, which can be accommodated between the two arm parts 27, 28 and with the pivot shaft 26 as the connecting articulation at the respective outer end 25A, 27A, 28A.
The free end 27B, 28B of the aforementioned pivot arm 10 is so arranged as to bear against a pressure plate 29 in the interior space 30 of the flush bolt and via a roller device 31, which is supported in such a way that it is free to rotate at the aforementioned free end 27B, 28B of the pivot arm.
The aforementioned pivot arm 10 is mounted in such a way that it is accommodated in a lock casing 32 exhibiting a U-shaped cross-section so that it is free to move between an essentially horizontal or slightly angled position I and an essentially vertical locked position II when the plunger 5 is actuated forcing it to be pivoted into the lock casing 32. The roller device 31, which can be in the form of a roller made of metal or some other suitable material, is so arranged as to bear against and roll against the inside 33A of an outer wall 33 of the lock casing 32 during the period for which the plunger 5 is actuated, as well as for the rest of the time, and is attached to the aforementioned double arm 10 in such a way that it is rotatably mounted via a bearing shaft 34. The rear projecting part 25 of the falling plunger 5 is so arranged as to bear against a stop device 35 with the falling plunger 5 in its fully extended position PB, for example a spring pin or some other connection which extends between the mutually opposing end walls 36, 37 of the lock casing 32.
The bolt 4 is also executed in a previously disclosed fashion in the form of a sleeve which accommodates one end 38 of a bar 40 provided with threads 39. The other end 41 is inflexibly attached to the pressure plate 29, the form of which is preferably adapted to the inner space of the lock housing 32, for example enclosed on four sides by side walls 36, 37, a front wall 33 and rear lateral edge guides 42, 43. A pressure spring 44 is accommodated in the aforementioned inner space 30 in the lock casing 32 in such a way that it is able to act between pressure plates 29, 291 and an upper ceiling 45 in the lock casing 32, so that a certain effort is required in order to be able to press in the falling plunger 5 and, with the help of the pivot arm 10, to cause the bolt 4 to project from the lock casing 32 and to lock the door leaf to the frame or the threshold in a matching recess.
The aforementioned lock plunger 4 is steplessly adjustable in a vertical sense with the help of a screw part 45 in the plunger 4, which, in a previously disclosed fashion, is caused by a matching key to rotate in the desired direction and, by so doing, to adjust the plunger 4 in or out to the desired degree. The function of the invention should have been appreciated from the above, but it may be summarized briefly by stating that the passive door leaf 3 is caused to close first. The active door leaf is then closed, and with one part makes contact with the falling plunger 5 and its bow-shaped actuating edge 8. In conjunction with this the aforementioned falling plunger 5 is pushed into the opening 46 in the lock casing 32 so that the vertical locking plunger 4 is forced out of the lock casing and locks the passive door leaf 3 to the frame and/or threshold. The active door leaf can then be locked in a previously disclosed fashion, for example with a key, although this is not illustrated and described in this case.
It is thus possible to achieve compact, effective and easily actuated locking of a flush bolt thanks to the invention.
The invention is naturally not restricted to the embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying drawings. Modifications are possible, in particular with regard to the nature of the different parts, or by the use of equivalent technology, without departing from the area of protection afforded to the invention, as defined in the Patent Claims.
