Abstract

In one embodiment, a first optical device (84) is modulated in a manner so as to not replicate the data signal being provided to and/or transmitted from an associated information processing device (72). In another embodiment, the optical emanations from a first optical device (12) are monitored by a data processing system (228) having a decoding protocol (264, 288) so as to be able to recover the data that is being transmitted to an information processing device (4). In yet another embodiment, the cumulative optical output of a plurality of first optical devices (12) associated with a plurality of information processing devices (4) is monitored by a data processing system (228) having a decoding protocol (380, 420) so as to able to decode each of the various individual data signals by scanning a signal that is representative of the cumulative optical output.
