Abstract

A light recovery system for a projection display with a reflector (102) having a first focal points (104) and a second focal point (106). A source (108) of electro-magnetic radiation (110) is disposed proximate to the first focal point (104) of the reflector ( 102) to emit rays of radiation that reflect from the reflector (102) and converge substantially at the second focal point (102). A retro-reflector (112) reflects at least a portion (114) of the electro-magnetic radiation (108) that does not impinge directly on the reflector (102) toward the reflector (102) through the first focal point (104) of the reflector (102) to increase the intensity of the converging rays. A light pipe (116) with an input surface (118) and an output surface (120) is disposed with the input surface (118) proximate to the second focal point (106) to collect and transmit substantially all of the radiation.
