Abstract

A voltage controlled oscillator (100) or a synthesizer (200) incorporating voltage tunable capacitors (105), comprising at least one resonator (110) coupled into a base circuit (115) of a bipolar transistor (120), the resonator (110) including at least one voltage tunable capacitor (105). The bipolar transistor (120) includes a collector (125) which terminates in a radial micro strip stub (130) and an emitter (140) which produces an output (152) via an impedance matching circuit (135). Also, included is an integral switch mode power supply (175) providing power to said base circuit via a first power supply filter (155), and to a controller (170) via a second power supply filter (165). The controller (160) scales the user-selected control voltage range to the levels required by the voltage tunable capacitors (105) associated with the resonator (110).
