Description

RECLINER MECHANISM FOR VEHICLE SEAT
Description
The present invention relates to a vehicle seat including a power recliner mechanism and power recliner mechanism.
Such recliner mechanisms are generally known. For example document WO 2006/040303 A2 discloses a recliner mechanism suitable for pivotably joining two parts of a vehicle component such as a vehicle seat, e.g. a seat base and a seat back (or a back rest). Generally, such recliner mechanisms have an inner and outer toothed design for which the outer gear has one additional tooth than the inner gear.
For proper functioning of a power recliner using an inner and outer toothed design for which the outer gear has one additional tooth than the inner gear, it is essential to have a proper center support structure that provides rigidity during high loads as well as adequate bearing area and locking geometry for normal use.
One aspect of the present invention is to solve this problem in order to provide a vehicle seat recliner mechanism having high rigidity during high loads and adequate bearing area and locking geometry.
According to one aspect of the present invention, this problem is solved by a power recliner using several parts already known form the recliner mechanism of document WO 2006/040303 A2, especially gear plates, adapters, wedges and spring, the power recliner of the present invention further providing a special power drive components. The component parts for power driving of the recliner mechanism are especially a modified drive bolt, a modified bushing and a so-called hub. The disclosure of WO 2006/040303 A2 is herewith incorporated by reference into the specification of the present invention.
According to a further aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of assembling a power recliner. This method can be described as follows: To begin the assembly, the hub is welded to the backrest adapter. This provides a rigid foundation to build the rest of the assembly from. The drive bolt head is also captured during this operation and becomes structurally connected to the adapter. This subassembly allows for accurate positioning of the drive components' center axis, i.e., the hub center relative to the pitch diameter of the gear plate teeth. The hub circumferential face provides proper surface area for wear and support of the drive components. Additionally, the hub is structurally advantaged by the overlapping effects of the drive bolt to the hub reducing the cantilever effects. This subassembly is shown below:
Once the subassembly is complete, the recliner is then built in similar fashion to the manual Laminate recliner, e.g. according to WO 2006/040303 A2, with the wedges, spring, gear plates and adapters, and bushing.
Figures
In Figure 1 , the main components of the power drive components of a power driven recliner mechanism are shown individually. Reference sign 1 designates a drive bolt for use in the power laminate recliner mechanism according to the present invention. Reference sign 2 designates a bushing for use in the power laminate recliner mechanism according to the present invention. Reference sign 3 designates a hub for use in the power laminate recliner mechanism according to the present invention.
In Figure 2, a part of the power driven recliner mechanism 10 according to the present invention is schematically shown. Besides the hub 3 and the drive bolt 1 , a recliner backrest adapter 4 is represented.
In Figure 3, a sectional view of a part of the power driven recliner mechanism 10 according to the present invention is schematically shown. From that view, a axially extending (along the pivot axis of the recliner mechanism) overlap 5 of the hub 3 and the drive bolt 1 can be seen.
In Figure 4, a perspective view of a part of the power driven recliner mechanism 10 according to the present invention is schematically shown. Once the subassembly of one half of the recliner mechanism is complete, the recliner is then built in similar fashion to the manual Laminate recliner, e.g. according to WO 2006/040303 A2, with wedges 6, spring 7, gear plates 8 and (lower seat) adapters 9, and bushing.
In Figures 5 and 6, two perspective views of the completely assembled power driven recliner mechanism 10 according to the present invention are schematically shown. The bushing 2 is welded in position to the drive bolt 1 and/or to one of the adapters. List of reference signs
