Methods and systems to suggest information to be used with an item being listed for sale may include analyzing stored search queries and identifying co-occurring terms or terms based on their desirability scores (or desirable terms). The co-occurring terms and the desirable terms may be identified based on their frequency of use in the search queries and/or in the title information or other information associated with items offered for sale.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving information associated with an item being listed in a network-based marketplace;

extracting a first term from the information associated with the item being listed;

analyzing stored search queries to identify a second term based on the first term; and

suggesting the second term as a candidate to modify the information associated with the item being listed.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the information includes title information.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyzing of the stored search queries to identify the second term comprises:

identifying a subset of the stored search queries that cause the item being listed to be included in search results; and

determining relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed as related to each of the stored search queries in the subset.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

sorting the stored search queries in the subset based on the relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed is to each of the stored search queries in the subset.

6. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

identifying terms and corresponding desirability scores of the terms, wherein the terms are included in each of the stored search queries in the subset.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the identifying the terms and the corresponding desirability scores of the terms comprises identifying the second term and its corresponding desirability score.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the analyzing the stored search queries to identify the second term based on the first term comprises identifying the second term as a co-occurring term with the first term.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising analyzing stored item information to identify a third term based on the first term, wherein the third term is the co-occurring term with the first term.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising suggesting the third term as a candidate to modify the information associated with the item being listed, in addition to or as an alternate to suggesting the second term.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the second term and the third term are suggested based on their frequency of co-occurrence with the first term.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the suggesting the second term as the candidate to modify the information associated with the item being listed comprises suggesting adding the second term to the information.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the suggesting the second term as the candidate to modify the information associated with the item being listed comprises suggesting removing the second term from the information when the second term is included in the information.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the suggesting the second term as the candidate to modify the information associated with the item being listed comprises suggesting not adding the second term to the information.

15. A machine-readable medium storing a sequence of instructions that, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform the method of claim 1.

16. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving information associated with an item being listed;

extracting a first term from the information; and

suggesting one or more terms to be used with the information based on a co-occurrence analysis between the first term and terms included in one or more stored search queries and stored item information.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the co-occurrence analysis is performed by searching the one or more stored search queries to determine co-occurring terms that include the first term.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the co-occurrence analysis is performed by searching the stored item information to determine the co-occurring terms that include the first term.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

forming a group of the co-occurring terms that includes co-occurring terms determined based on the stored search queries and co-occurring terms determined based on the stored item information; and

sorting the group of the co-occurring terms according to their frequency of occurrence.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the one or more terms suggested to be used with the information are associated with the co-occurring terms having high frequency of occurrence.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the information includes title information, and wherein the one or more terms are suggested to be used with the title information.

22. A machine-readable medium storing a sequence of instructions that, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform the method of claim 16.

23. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving information associated with an item being listed in a network-based marketplace;

based on the information, identifying a subset of the stored search queries that cause the item being listed to be included in search results; and

determining relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed as related to each of the stored search queries in the subset; and

based on the relevancy of the information, suggesting one or more terms to modify the information.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the information includes title information.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the identifying the subset of the stored search queries that cause the item being listed to be included in search results comprises identifying at least one stored search query having all of its terms included in the information of the item being listed.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein the determining the relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed comprises determining desirability scores of terms that are included in the information of the item being listed but not included in each of the stored search query in the subset.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the determining the relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed further comprises adding the desirability scores of all the terms to generate a composite score for each of the stored search queries in the subset.

28. The method of claim 27, further comprising sorting the stored search queries in the subset based on the relevancy of the information associated with the item being listed.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein the desirability scores of all the terms are determined at least based on their occurrences in the stored search queries in the subset.

30. The method of claim 28, wherein the desirability scores of all the terms are determined at least based on their occurrences in stored item information.

31. A system, comprising:

a processor;

a storage device coupled to the processor to store information related to search queries and information related to items associated with a network-based marketplace; and

a suggestion application coupled to the processor to receive title information related to an item being listed and to suggest modifying information related to the item being listed, wherein the modifying information is suggested based on at least the information related to the search queries or the information related to the items in the network-based marketplace.
