Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for assigning a customer credit limit to a customer, comprising:

setting a customer risk category and a customer hierarchy for the customer;

determining, by a computer, a credit horizon for the customer, wherein the credit horizon comprises a specified time period with regard to a delivery date of the item,

wherein the specified time period that is varied based on the customer risk category;

receiving a request for delivery of an undelivered item to the customer;

determining, by a computer, whether the delivery date of the undelivered item is within the credit horizon;
establishing a credit for the customer when the delivery date of the item is within the credit horizon in accordance with the customer risk category, the customer hierarchy, and open orders for the customer within the credit horizon, and ignoring open orders that are due for delivery to the customer after the credit horizon; and
assigning the customer credit limit to the customer based on the established credit.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising assigning a next credit review date.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising disallowing creation of an order if the next credit review date is not assigned.

4. The method of claim 2 further comprising disallowing creation of a delivery date if the next create review date is not assigned.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein an order delivery is disallowed if a credit is not reviewed before the next credit review date is passed.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the customer hierarchy comprises a world wide customer, a central office customer and a sold-to customer.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein an order delivery is disallowed unless within both a credit limit of the sold-to customer and a credit limit of a central office customer related to the sold-to customer.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein an assigned credit limit is managed collectively for the sold-to customer and other sold-to-customers if the sold-to customer shares a payer with the other sold-to customers.

9. A system for a credit check of a customer, comprising:

a computer system, where the computer system runs instructions to determine:

a customer risk category and a customer hierarchy for the customer;

a credit horizon for the customer, wherein the credit horizon comprises a specified time-period that is varied based on the customer risk category;

a received request for delivery of an undelivered item to the customer;
wherein if a delivery date of the undelivered item is within the credit horizon, the computer system to further run instructions to establish a credit for the customer in accordance with the customer risk category, the customer hierarchy, and open orders for the customer within the credit horizon, and ignoring open orders that are due for delivery to the customer after the credit horizon; and
a customer credit limit being assigned to the customer based on the established credit.

10. The system of claim 9 further comprising a next credit review date.

11. The system of claim 10 further comprising an order creation is not allowed if the next credit review date is not assigned.

12. The system of claim 10 further comprising a delivery date is not allowed if the next create review date is not assigned.

13. The system of claim 10 wherein an order delivery is not allowed if a credit is not reviewed before the next credit review date is passed.

14. The system of claim 9 wherein the customer hierarchy comprises a world wide customer, a central office customer and a sold-to customer.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein an order delivery is disallowed unless within both a credit limit of the sold-to customer and a credit limit of a central office customer related to the sold-to customer.

16. The system of claim 14 wherein the assigned credit limit is managed collectively for the sold-to customer and other sold-to-customers if the sold-to customer shares a payer with the other sold-to customers.
