Neomar Users Can Now Use Google to Search and Browse Any HTML or WAP-enabled Web Site
PCIA GlobalXchange, CHICAGO - September 26, 2000 - Neomar, the leading provider of infrastructure services that enable wireless enterprise and business-to-business (B2B) applications, today announced that Google's award-winning search engine will be available Oct. 1, 2000 to users of the Motient eLink(SM) wireless device equipped with Neomar's WAP-based microbrowser. Users will be able to access the Google search engine through the Neomar browser to find information on any HTML or WAP-enabled Web site, providing the greatest amount of content on any wireless device. The service also will be available to Neomar's wireless carrier customers, as well as to the company's enterprise and ASP customers on other Neomar-supported devices, such as all Palms and others from Research In Motion.
Google is the world's largest search engine with more than 1 billion Web pages, and offers Web surfers simple, fast, and highly relevant search results for every web-connected computer, including the emerging class of wireless devices such as Palm and Research In Motion handheld computers. The key benefits of Google's search engine include its ease of use and clean interface, and highly relevant results. Google is based on a variety of innovative technologies, including sophisticated text matching and its advanced, patent-pending technology called PageRank(TM), which ensures that the most important results always come up first. This scalable approach to search enables Google to get better as the Internet gets bigger.
"The wealth of information that Internet users have come to expect from the Web should be available to them, regardless of the medium they choose to access that content," said Sergey Brin, Google president and co-founder. "Working with Neomar to deliver information to users of wireless devices is critical to our mission of providing Internet users with the most information anywhere they happen to be."
Neomar's solutions are optimized for PDA devices because the large screens, overall interfaces, large memory capacity and ability to handle graphics combine to make an optimal platform to deliver business content and enterprise applications. Adding the Google search functionality to the Neomar Mobile Portal, which currently includes a range of critical information from driving directions, weather and restaurants to stock quotes, is another milestone in Neomar's plan to deliver business-critical content and enterprise applications to mobile professionals using a variety of wireless devices. These devices include the Palm(TM), Handspring Visor(TM), Research In Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) BlackBerry(TM), and Motient eLink (NASDAQ: MTNT).
"Being able search for and retrieve any information, regardless of whether it is written in WML or HTML is critical to businesspeople who spend most of their time on the road," said Martin Buhr, vice president of business development at Neomar. "Google's wireless search technology enables our mobile business customers to get the information they need while away from their desks."
Neomar's microbrowser delivers content from partners specifically formatted for wireless devices using WML 1.1, the WAP equivalent of HTML. Using open standards like WAP to deliver content and applications is becoming a critical factor in developing wireless content by making it swift and simple to adapt Web applications and content to handheld devices. As a result, Neomar's microbrowser gives users a secure, easy way to access important information. Because WAP is an open protocol, it allows the wireless development community to deliver WAP applications to customers. Along with first commercially available browser for PDAs, Neomar has developed an end-to-end WAP solution encompassed by a gateway, microbrowser, application server, and a portal.
