Malaysia's Mobile Content Portal Now Offers Direct Access to Google's Highly Relevant Search Technology
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - January 16, 2001 - Google Inc., developer of the award-winning Google search engine, and E-Chilipadi, Malaysia's leading provider of wireless content and application services, today announced an agreement whereby E-Chilipadi will provide direct access to Google's fast and highly relevant wireless search engine from its mobile portal. Available now at http://wap.chilipadi.com, mobile Internet users can leverage the Google search engine to find the information they need from almost any wireless device.
Chilipadi.com users can now wirelessly search and browse more than 2.2 million WML and HDML pages, and more than 1.3 billion HTML web pages contained in Google's search engine index - the largest available on the World Wide Web. Google automatically converts HTML web pages into WML, the programming language supported by most mobile phone microbrowsers, to optimize viewing on mobile phones.
"Google is an internationally renowned brand name that best describes the tastes of the mobile generation," said Jamie Saw, Chief Operating Officer of E-Chilipadi. "Our users have been very pleased with the Google search engine's ability to return highly relevant results quickly and intuitively, and we see great opportunity for even more co-operation in the future."
"The E-Chilipadi relationship represents another important milestone in our quest to bring our search services to the Asian marketplace," said Larry Page, Google CEO and co-founder. "We're flattered that E-Chilipadi has identified Google as the best wireless search experience possible."
Google currently licenses its search services to more than 130 companies in more than 30 countries. Customers include Yahoo! and its international properties; NEC Corp., developers of BIGLOBE, a leading Japanese portal; and NetEase, one of the largest portals in China. Wireless partners include OmniSky, Nextel, Palm Inc. and Pixo. In addition to its growing roster of international companies, the Google search engine is available in 25 languages, including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
Chilipadi.com's mobile service uses the web as a point of entry at http://chilipadi.com. The mobile service operates over both WAP and SMS platforms and can be accessed at http://wap.chilipadi.com.
