Tritton AX Pro 5.1 Gaming Headset Review
Pros: Discrete 5.1 surround sound headphones; supports headset chatting; various amount of adjustable controls; extra earcups; detachable microphone; compatible with most PCs and gaming consoles.Cons: Headphones require power; tedious setup; requires a lot of wires; included 3-foot optical cable and USB cable won't get you far; heavy headphones; doesn't work with the Wii.Bottom Line: If you can get past its tedious setup, the AX Pro 5.1 Gaming Headset performs extremely well and is compatible with pretty much every gaming PC and game console except the Wii.In addition to high-definition graphics, the current generation of video game consoles also offer discrete 5.1 surround sound. While it's occasionally overlooked by some gamers, surround sound adds an entirely separate dimension to the experience of playing video games. Of course, to enjoy all surround sound has to offer, you'll need a home theater setup including a receiver that can process the audio information.
If you're not willing to pull the trigger on a new home theater setup or you just don't have a properly sized room that can accommodate such a system, you may want to turn to 5.1 surround sound headphones. We've already looked at a wireless solution with the X4 Headset from Turtle Beach, but we weren't impressed with its lackluster infrared signal radius and sound isolation performance. The Tritton AX Pro Gaming Headset is a wired device that sounds fantastic and does a great job of immersing you into the …Read full review Was this review helpful? -
Avoid Triton
Pros: Rich sound qualityCons: Price, set up, channel seperation isn't what I expectedI received the AX 720 as a gift because I had talked about wanting a Triton headset since seeing all the rave reviews of them. It didn't preform as I expected so I exchanged it for the AX Pro in hopes it would be what I expected. I have the same issues with it as I did with the 720. I'll detail what I found with the AX Pro.The sound quality is top notch with this headset. The sound rivals my home surround system with deep bass that can rattle your head if you have the bass turned up, solid midranges and crisp highs. This is as good as you can get and all the Triton has going for it. The channel seperation is horrible on both the 720 and the AX Pro. I feel I would be very pleased with this headset if I weren't used to my Turtle Beach X31 but it's channel seperation is very poor from what I'm used to.Hook up of the AX Pro was a bit easier for me than the 720 was but I feel more documation should be included for all the settings that are possible for the headset. The headset is the same design as the 720 which is suprisingly comfortable given it's bulky design. Gaming for a couple of hours at a time gave no discomfort from it's weight and bulky design.

Good but, not great.
Pros: Sound Quality, Mic is crystal clear, Volume controlsCons: Construction, Customer support, Does not support PC in the US.First the sound quality and the mic clarity is second to none. I have been gaming with headsets for over 15 years, and this is the best I've had. The volume controls and mic options make it very easy to set up the sound you are looking for.
For the price the construction should be much more solid. The first week I had them I stepped on the cord and the plastic pulled apart. It snapped back together easy enough, but it feels cheap. I am worried about the durability over time. You would think for the price they could replace that plastic with aluminum and use screws instead of plastic pop-ins. Customer support to get them set up properly is nearly non-existant. The in-line volume controls are heavy and get very warm. It's a minor annoyance and they should be re-located. The biggest issue I have is recently while looking at the site I read they do not support PC use here in the states. The site states PC support is europe only. So all though the box and ads claim PC, its PC in europe only. That being said, I still have been able to set them up just fine with my PC and I have not experianced any problems upto this point.I would give them 3.5 out of 5 stars if I could. The performance is what you would expect, but the price vs. construction quality and poor support knock it down some.Full review provided by:
