- About me
Thanks for dropping by, do say 'Hello' using one of the multitude of links to your right, it would be nice to hear from you. The short piece below goes some way to introducing who I might be. It was written on my Apple iMac, whilst listening to Helios and Lee Morgan. If you'd prefer a more serious answer you could request a copy of my CV.
A Biography, of sorts.
Once described in my school report as a "brilliant linguist" and told by one of my teachers that a book review I wrote made me "sound like an Evening Standard Theatre Critic", I eventually chose neither of those as a career path and went to Sunderland to study Media.
I have long had an interest in radio and the creative industries and suspect my first word was 'news', gleaned from Ceefax. I leant at University not only how one should broadcast, but that I could do it myself and that other people might like me doing so.
My style of presentation was described as laid-back and self-deprecating and my programmes, by one listener as, "like a proper radio show". I still maintain that being involved with student radio was some of the most fun I have had.
Not one for the clubs and societies, I spent more than one Saturday night in, reading Stephen Fry, listening to Bob Harris and eating cake. During this time, I taught myself to build websites and yes, some of them actually worked.
After University, armed with a "tutu" and a developed appreciation for real ale, I headed for an all too brief spell in BBC Local Radio as "the most junior member of the team". Whilst there, I also found a Pub that served a range of burgers named after US Presidents and the local High Street, which was considerably steeper than I would have liked.
I then moved to a community radio station in Kent, where I spent a good couple of years showing some estimable young people how to press all the right buttons. I might also have read out an extract or two from the Bob Monkhouse Autobiography on-air. You can ask me about that one.
Whilst maintaining my enthusiasm for media in my spare time, I have yet to find an appropriate way of making a living out of it. I can, however, administrate very well and have developed a range of skills in doing so, most recently with a Local Authority.
Outside of work, my other interests include: watching Cricket and other sports, music and expensive technology. I live in South London and exist mainly on a diet of Bananas, Porridge made in a saucepan, and Steak.
