- About me
Dr. Robert Cargill is an archaeologist and biblical scholar specializing in Northwest Semitic languages and Near Eastern archaeology of the Second Temple period. He holds a B.S. from CSU Fresno, a M.S. and M.Div. from Pepperdine University, and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures from UCLA. Dr. Cargill's doctoral research focused on the use of digital modeling and virtual reality to reconstruct Khirbet Qumran, the site associated with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dr. Cargill has participated in numerous archaeological field excavations, including Banias (ancient Caesarea Philippi), Omrit, and Hazor. Dr. Cargill serves as the Chief Architect and Designer of the Qumran Visualization Project, a 3D, real-time, virtual reconstruction of the site of Qumran, and is the Instructional Technology Coordinator for the Center for Digital Humanities at UCLA. He regularly appears on numerous television documentaries on the topics of biblical studies and archaeology.
