farmer, linguist
- About me
I live on a 40-acre farm just outside the city of Eagle, Idaho USA. My family has been farming and ranching in this area since the 1880s,
when my great-great-grandfather G.W. Fry first settled
here to grow corn and alfalfa and raise sheep.
When not working on the farm I do freelance translation (Japanese into English) and I teach Linguistics at Boise State University. I earned a BA in Linguistics and Computer Science from UCLA, followed by a Ph.D. in Linguistics, with a minor in Computer Science, from Stanford University in 2002. Before moving to Idaho I worked as a computational linguist in the San Francisco Bay Area and taught courses in language technology (text and speech processing) at San Jose State University.
