About Jacob
After retiring in 2004 I have found the time to do new things and pursue old loves. Writing poetry is my new love and making photographs seems to have been a part of me since I can remember.
I have been exploring ways to express myself for some time. Most of my work has been that of capturing images of women. My passion usually leads me to the face. I love doing portraits. I find faces so exciting. It gives me great joy to find and seize an image in passing. Often this is the way I get to know the women I photograph. I still spend time on the streets with my camera collecting images. Other times I go to much pain using makeup and costumes to contrive and build an image to suit my purpose. Using nudes and fashion I have explored editorial as well as darkroom manipulation. My projects usually have me looking to find someone or something that I can shine the light on and bring out that which shows my emotion. I have also done some work in film and am now working on some small video projects. At this time in 2009, I’m doing a lot of looking back. My pursuit of writing has taken the lead and for past five years I have been recalling images of the 1960s.
Actually I have never stopped thinking about the 1960’s. For the most part my latest projects are sparked by those memories. My last completed chapbook Sandwich Shop Oracle talks about some of the people that I encountered and how we passed the time.
I would like to use the next few years working on images of women. Hope that putting my work on the web will help me to find women to work with.
