Money Saving Tips for the Holidays with Kimberly Danger

Kimberly Danger, founder of Mommysavers.com, has partnered with Uniroral Tire in its “More Mileage for your Money” Campaign – with a series of videos, tips and ebooks on ways to save money. According to Kim, all it takes is a little bit of creativity!!

Thanksgiving: A turkey may not be a budget buster – but getting your house up to snuff can be. Kim suggests decorating naturally, bringing the outdoors in with colored leaves, acorns and pine cones that can be arranged on your tabletops. Fresh cranberries in glass vases and bowls make for a simple, but elegant holiday centerpiece.

As for gift giving – you don’t have to be a grinch – something homemade is always appreciated. Consider making personalized ornaments baked right in your oven. Or – a family recipe book: all you might need is your printer, a scanner and a loose-leaf binder or photo album.

A Bleak Economy Offers Some Life Lessons For Young Children

Children need to learn to give, not just get, according to child development experts, and this holiday season is a prime time to teach the importance of giving.

Dr. Michele Borba, psychologist and author of “Getting Back to Basics and Raising Happy Kids,” says that compassion, empathy and fairness come naturally to children, but these qualities need to be nurtured or they may be lost as children mature. Dr. Borba suggests that parents should encourage the learning these skills through play and real-life experiences.

Dr. Borba helped Learning Curve develop The Mrs. Goodbee Interactive Dollhouse, a talking dollhouse that encourages sharing through more than 400 activities and songs. Another plus: when a child receives the dollhouse, the box it comes in becomes a “Carton of Caring,” to be filled with clothing and toys to donate to Goodwill agencies in the U.S. and Canada.

Using Technology to Lower Both Costs and Carbon Footprint

The economic downturn has been marked by unprecedented volatility, making it very difficult for companies to plan, budget and operate effectively, especially businesses that depend on large fleets of cars and trucks to service their customers.

In a challenging economy, more and more companies are looking for help and turning to technology and analytics for solutions to not only dramatically cut costs but increase productivity while shrinking a company’s carbon footprint.

Bob Mitchell talks about the use of telematics –a technology that uses devices hardwired to the vehicles’ engines to feed a constant stream of data back to a central computer that monitors all the vehicles in real time, reporting back on driver behavior, engine performance, vehicle location and more.
