NYWC: Living Illusions

NYWC: Living Illusions

During the General Sessions, there was a group, Living Illusions, who performed for us. They don't necessarily do "magic tricks," though some of the acts are illusions. They seem to do more stunts where magic isn't involved, but skill.

This is the "Full View Water Torture Cell." No trickery involved... Kristen has to hold her breath while she picks all the locks on her and he cell. They don't put a curtain over the cell, as many illusionists do. They want you to see it all happen.

Living Illusions tours the country doing their act and delivering a message of hope and love with it.

NYWC: Suffering for the Ministry

NYWC: Suffering for the Ministry

So, in the exhibit hall at NYWC there are hundreds of vendors and organizations to talk to that may help you to run or enhance your youth ministry. Often times these exhibitors give away various things as gifts or prizes. And then there are some make you work for it. This is a story of just such an instance.

SermonSpice.com is a website that provides downloadable videos to enhance messages. There's some great stuff on there. Well, at their booth they had a challenge offered to anyone who dared. There were three kinds of hot pepper of increasing heat intensity. If you ate a pepper they would give you a SermonSpice t-shirt and coupons for free videos from their site. I accepted the challenge myself and then made it a goal to get the rest of our team to do the same. This is the experience of Janelle and Jesus with SermonSpice's chili pepper contest.

NYWC: Starfield - Hosanna (Live)

I was helping Youth Specialties to live blog their 2008 National Youth Worker's Convention in Pittsburgh, and they set up a table for us to be stationed at inside the tech booth. While there, I propped my camera up and recorded some of Starfield leading the people in a time of worship.

This is Starfield covering the song "Hosanna" originally by Hillsong.

Armando and Manny trying to spit game

While walking around the expo hall at NYWC: Pittsburgh, I noticed Armando and Manny hanging out around an exhibitor for a long time trying to get their game up.

NYWC: Monongahela Incline Plane

While touring Pittsburgh before NYWC 2008 began, we found ourselves at the Monongahela Incline Plane. It's kind of a tram that scales the side of an insanely steep clip and come out at an overlook where you can see the entire city of Pittsburgh from.

We spent some time at the top, taking pictures, and observing the scenery. And we had ice cream.

What is Maji?

via williamhartz's Videos by williamhartz on 10/27/08

What is Maji?

Sorry about the audio. We recorded in a rush, on $0 budget, with whatever gear we had there and ready to go. And so, I didn't have proper mics. It annoys me, but alas, it needed to get done.

Maji is a program we're putting on to raise $14,000 in order to provide a village in Africa with a "water wheel" so that the people there will be able to have access to clean, drinkable, usable water that will not bring them disease and death.

If you want more information on the water wheel project, you can visit playpump.org.

Maji is a variety show that we're putting on December 20, 2008 in Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, NJ. Tickets cost $10. If you're interested in more information, please message me.

The Voicemail

The Voicemail

I receive lots of voicemails from people who think that I'm someone else. In fact, I just now received another one from a wrong number. For some reason, people must not listen to the message before the beep to realize I'm not the one they seek. Here is one particular message that has amused me.

Jose rides a horse

This was a lot funnier when we recorded it at 4am. Sleep deprivation does that to you.
