A Weekend in Maine

via Carole Knits by Carole on 11/18/08

We spent this past weekend in Ogunquit, Maine with Dale’s sister Lisa.  She has a time share up there for the weekend and was really sweet to invite us to spend some time with her.  The place was very nice and had some great features like a whirlpool tub and electric fireplace.  Unfortunately, the weather was crappy.  It rained Friday night and all day Saturday.  Sunday was sunny but cold and windy.

Of course the weather didn’t stop us from getting out a bit and exploring.  We drove up the coast and I took some photos.

They sure are different than the last beach photos I posted.

We visited L.L. Bean, where I did some Christmas shopping.   We played games and drank some wine.  We shared stories and shed a few tears of the very recent death of Lisa’s boyfriend.  We swam in the pool and took a turn in the sauna.   Mostly, though, we just talked and laughed.

And that always makes for a great weekend.

No knit should be a slog. I've said that to several knitters this past week, including myself. If it isn't fun, why are you knitting it? If it's a slog, and not working out satisfactorily, why are you knitting it?...

Eek!

Windows, doors, and bugs.  *shudder*

It’s really quite humiliating to be two weeks in to a new job, trying to come across as smart, professional and sophisticated, only to be reduced to shrieking hysterics by a bug.

But, dude, it flew at my head.

Come Back Tomorrow

via Carole Knits by Carole on 11/17/08

I had a fun but exhausting weekend away.  I promise details tomorrow but for today I need to catch up on some things.  Nothing too important, just sleep.  And maybe some blogs.

Come back tomorrow!

What's Next?

For the first time in weeks I spent most of Saturday at home and I spun for much of the morning. Then, got sucked into the black hole of pattern organization and reassessment of the WIPs. The pattern organization black...

NaNoWriMo Progress

via Amanda's Weekly Zen by Amanda on 11/16/08
All this month there has been a curious little icon in the right sidebar. Some of you may have noticed that I joined the NaNoWriMo. I have joined in the past but have not actually written anything most of the time because I completely forgot about it. This year I told myself that I would finish my current novel and I would do it during NaNoWriMo. Well I currently have 6,308 words out of the required 50,000 to complete the challenge. That means in two weeks time I need to write 43, 692 words to complete the challenge (but possibly not the novel). This time I actually think that I can do it. The novel I am working on is more of a collection of short stories about different people all living in the same area. Norwood started off the story with two characters that he both hates but at the same time loves (he loves them only because they are funny to imagine their actions and words). They are a comical pair of drug addicts that find love across generations (this section is based somewhat on the truth of two people we encountered in Florida). I picked up the story and have helped to fill out the characters by adding more people around them. My real focus is on another couple who moved near the comical drug addicts because their father wanted to keep them out of trouble. The story is a satire. Inspired by Henry Fielding’s characters in Tom Jones (of course, if you only knew how many times I read that novel!) and some of the people we have encountered these last few months in Florida this story is actually coming out pretty good. Once it is complete and edited I will have it for sale at Lulu.

Well now back to writing…

Whole Lotta Spinning Going On.

A third bobbin is about half full. This delicious merino was hand dyed by Anne. I've been trying to live up to Carole's 10 Minutes a Day spinning code, but some days I only fit in a few minutes before...

Photohunters: Ruin

via Amanda's Weekly Zen by Amanda on 11/16/08

Recycle, originally uploaded by amandavisualzen.

So we do not completely "ruin" our planet let us all recycle! And really how could you not want to throw your old water bottle into that cool looking bin. Norwood bought more water bottles just so he could recycle them in the cool bin (yeah he is a joker).

Edited to add: Someone asked me where I found the recycle bin... It is located in Disney World's Epcot in Futureworld. What you see off in the distance is the Imagination Pavilion. Oh and thanks to Sabine for offering more water bottles to recycle :).
