  • Best Value AMD Processor
    By Expert - September 29, 2009 - Bestcovery
The Phenom 9950 is part of AMD's "Black" series of processors offering unlocked multipliers. The 9950 is a great overclocker, which is precisely AMD's intention. The Phenom X4 9950 combines four CPU cores, unlocked multipliers, and great pricing. It may be 65nm and an older CPU (compared to the newer 45nm Phenom IIs), but the X4... Read full review

Pros: Price, energy efficiency high under normal use, oc to 3.2GHZ

    Cons: 140w motherboard compatibility issues

This quad is competitive with e6600 from price /performance comparison. the chip is energy efficient under normal use but energy consumption ramps up under load. The 140w chips need a 790fx or 790gx motherboard. I have heard a 125w version is in the works.
This chip is not plagued by the TLB erratum. Read full review

  • The 145 Watt Version runs hot
    By Enigma8750 - October 7, 2008 - Shopping
The 9950 Black Edition is an Exceptional Product. The Speed and stability is quite Nice. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that some of these are 145 Watt processors. So for that reason the processor cooler that comes with it is only sufficient for non-Overclockers. If you plan to overclock this processor you MUST buy an After Market Cooler. The Xigmatec Rifle or the Sunbeam 120s are really good for this CPU but you need to make sure that you have enough room in your case for them. They are both about 6 inchs tall. Overclocking this processor is very stable to about 3.2 on air and 3.6 on water or Peltier cooler. All in all this is a HOT processor. See if you can get the 125 Watt version 2. It will run cooler but I don t know about the OverClocking ability of that unit. Read full review
