To view 3D buildings in Google Earth, select the "3D Buildings" layer (see image below).
This layer contains two sub-layers: "3D Warehouse" and "Other Buildings". Buildings submitted to the Google 3D Warehouse that meet our acceptance criteria are automatically added to the "Best of 3D Warehouse" layer. The "Best of 3D Warehouse" layer contains photo-textured buildings.
Non-textured 3D buildings in various cities around the world are found in the "Other Buildings" layer.
Acceptance Criteria
1. Model existing, real-world buildings.
2. Use photos for your textures.
3. Model efficiently. The lower number of polygons the better.
4. Position the building accurately in Google Earth.
5. Ensure that the model is planted into the terrain in your Google Earth snapshot by using the "Toggle Terrain" button in Google SketchUp.
6. Avoid making duplicates of existing models. However, improving upon an existing model is highly encouraged!
7. Do not include anything in the model that does not exist in the real-world, including non-real advertisements or watermarks.
8. Provide a useful, interesting description of the building.
Build 3D models for Google Earth
Accurate representations of real-world buildings may be candidates for inclusion in the "Best of 3D Warehouse" layer in Google Earth. If you would like your models to be considered, follow these steps:
1. Locate your building in Google Earth correctly using Google Earth and Google SketchUp.
2. Model your building with Google SketchUp.
3. Publish your model to the Google 3D Warehouse.
4. After the model is reviewed, it may be accepted into the "Best of the 3D Warehouse" layer in Google Earth. This selection process takes time, but you should see your models in the layer within a few weeks.
5. Models that have been selected for the Best of 3D Warehouse layer are identified with this symbol in the 3D Warehouse: |
