Trouble enabling Labs for Google Apps?

If you're having trouble enabling Labs for Google Apps, check that you have New services and Features enabled, or if that doesn't work, check out our Help Forum. We also suggest that you check out this walkthrough on adding a Google Labs feature to your Google Apps domain.

How do I change the access URLs for my application?

If the Google Labs or Google App Engine application has already been set up in Google Apps, you will see an entry for the application on the Google Apps dashboard. By default, when you deploy your service on Google App Engine, your service will be accessible at [your-application-id].appspot.com.

In order to provide a stronger brand experience for your application, you may also want to make this application to be available at [my-brand].com or www.[my-brand].com. To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the Google Apps control panel.
  2. Click on the service name (this is the same name as the Google App Engine identifier).
  3. On the service settings page, you may add or remove additional URLs for your service. An access URL for your service may be any of the following forms:
    • and so on...

Notes: The login URL for the Google Apps control panel is http://www.google.com/a/[example.com]. Be sure to include your actual domain name.

If you purchased your domain through Google, instructions for accessing your registrar are available in the Advanced DNS section of the control panel.

Once you specify an additional access URL, you may be prompted to complete the set up with your registrar if you did not purchase your domain through Google. If so, follow the provided instructions to configure CNAME records with your registrar.

How do I enable secure (HTTPS) access to my application?

Your application developer may configure your application to allow, require, or deny HTTPS access to your application. Currently, Google App Engine only supports HTTPS access to applications when accessed at their appspot.com URLs, e.g. https://[your-app-id].appspot.com. Once installed on your domain, your application can always be accessed at its appspot.com URL.

Note: If you've installed a Google App Engine application into your domain prior to 2/27/2009, you may be required to reinstall the application to enable access to the application at https://[your-app-id].appspot.com.

I'd like to map my app to http://myurl.com (also known as a naked domain).

Due to recent changes, Google App Engine no longer supports mapping your app to a naked domain. If your domain registrar supports URL redirects, you can redirect from http://yourdomain.com to your app, which can be served from domains like http://www.yourdomain.com or http://appid.yourdomain.com.

For instructions on how to configure a redirect for your Google Apps domain, please see the article on URL forwarding.
