AdSense Help

Do you have any tips for using AdSense for feeds?

We recommend a few best practices that should help you get the most of your feed ads.

  • Create a channel for every feed, and mark it as a targetable ad placement so that it can easily be found by advertisers. This is the most effective and most important way to increase your feed visibility and revenue. Writing a thorough description of that feed's content will also help advertisers find your feed and understand what they're targeting.
  • Set the frequency of ads that best matches your content. In general, you want one or two ads to show for each page that a user sees at a time in a standard feed reader, like Google Reader. If you tend to write short posts, we recommend that you space your ads every 2-3 posts. If you write long reviews, or tend to write posts that fill the good part of a page, it's appropriate to set the frequency to one ad in every post.
  • Display both text and image ads. Though you have the option to choose just image ads or just text ads, we encourage you to display both to provide variety for your users and increase competition for your ad space.
  • Include the full content of your feed in your posts. Including more content increases subscribers, which in turn increases the number of impressions you serve into your feed. Though you might think this will reduce clicks to your site, our experience has shown this isn't always the case. Often, the audience reading your feed is a separate audience from those who visit your site, so we encourage you to monetize your audience of feed readers separately.
