What are the system requirements for running Blogger for Word?
The Blogger for Word add-in requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or higher, with Microsoft Word 2000 or higher installed. Most PCs built in the past four years will do just fine.
I installed the add-in and nothing happens.
Sorry about that; due to a security feature in Microsoft Outlook, your Blogger for Word toolbar may not appear if Outlook is running. Please close down Outlook and Word and then run Word before you restart Outlook.
I installed the add-in and I get errors saying: "Compile Error in Hidden Module ParseXML" or "ActiveX component can't create object"
Microsoft Windows 2000 users may need an update to their system to properly install on your system. Please download and install Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 (MSXML) Service Pack 5 (SP5).
I tried to install the Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 update and it says I require a newer version of Windows Installer. Where do I get this?
No problem; you can download Windows Installer 2.0 here.
The add-in doesn't add my Word document to the local files list when I click Open Post.
On some computers, the Blogger for Word add-in isn't able to communicate properly with Word. If you're having this problem, we recommend downloading the latest service packs for your version of Word.
Word gives me a message similar to "Do you want to save changes to Global template Normal.dot"
Even though the Blogger add-in makes little or no change to the Normal.dot template, this problem can still occur with certain Word setups. You can simply click either "Yes" or "No," or you can change the Word setting to fix this problem. To change the setting, open Word, then, from the Tools menu, select "Options." On the Save tab, uncheck the box for "Prompt to save Normal template."
On Windows 2000 machines, you have to have MSXML 3.0(SP5) or higher installed. You can download msxml3.msi here.
How do I uninstall Blogger for Word?
Just run the installer again and it will uninstall Blogger for Word.
Known Issues
- If a blog post contains two hyperlinks back-to-back with no spaces or text between the links and is opened by the Blogger add-in, MS Word will throw an error. This is only visible on Word 2000 and is a known Microsoft error. There is no appropriate work-around, but luckily it is a rare case.
- A recent security fix to Outlook prevents running Word plug-ins in Outlook. Running Outlook and Word at the same time can cause errors if Word is not turned off as your email editor. As a work around, you can either turn off Word as your editor in Outlook or close Outlook before running Word independently and vice-versa.
- The Blogger for Word add-in breaks the Remove Hidden Data tool from Microsoft, though the add-in itself still works. We are investigating this matter further but there does not appear to be an immediate workaround.
