Sync your bookmarks: How bookmark sync works

Print

This feature is currently available on Google Chrome Beta for Windows.

You can keep your Google Chrome bookmarks synchronized on multiple computers, using your Google Account. This can be handy if you often need to use the same websites on different computers (say, your home computer as well as your work laptop).

Here's how it works:

  • Your bookmarks are merged and saved in your Google Account.

When you enable sync on a computer, all your Google Chrome bookmarks on that computer are saved in your Google Account. If you enable sync on a second computer by signing in to the same Google Account, Google Chrome takes the bookmarks from this second computer and merges them with the bookmarks in your Google Account. This combined set of bookmarks then shows up on the bookmark bar on both computers synced to your Google Account.

  • Bookmark changes appear instantaneously.

Add, edit, or delete bookmarks just like you normally would within Google Chrome. Changes you make on one computer are automatically reflected on the other computers where you've enabled the sync feature.

  • What if someone signs in to the sync feature with a different Google Account?

Be careful if multiple people use Google Chrome within the same Windows user account. If your friend, Nick, signs in to the sync feature with his Google Account on your computer, your bookmarks on that computer will be added to Nick's Google Docs. Google Chrome can only be synced to one Google Account at any given time.

  • Your synced bookmarks also show up in Google Docs.

They appear in a new folder called "Google Chrome." So if you ever need to access your bookmarks on a different browser or computer, you can just visit Google Docs.

At this time, it's not possible to remove the Google Chrome bookmark folder from Google Docs, once it's been added. It's also not possible to make changes to your bookmarks within Google Docs.
