Has any one else also experienced missing documents?

I have been using Google docs for almost 2 years now. I am a great fan of this and has recommended to several people use of and helped them starting to use the service.
The following has never happened to me:
I had a spreadsheet that I used not so frequently. In fact, last time I used it was about 3 weeks ago. I wanted to check something in the spreadsheet today, and the document was not there.
I know for a fact that I rarely delete documents, and if I do, I do still keep them in the Bin, without deleting them from there.
I share it with my wife, and I am the owner of the sheet, so she cannot delete it.
But the document is totally missing. I tried all the possible searches etc.
This is a concern to me.
Has this happened to anyone before?
Thanks

Could it have been re-named?
I have experienced this problem just this week and it has caused a major problem for our office. 3 spreadsheets that I created and shared with my staff team to record data have just 'disappeared'. Unfortunately, I did not save a local copy, so 5 months of information is gone.
What to do???!!!???!!!
Same thing here. All of my spreadsheets are missing.
Hi Gill
Nope, did not rename the sheet.
I do not know if this is being investigated or not. Have google docs have a defect tracking function or tool, and if so, what is the defect number? Is this being investigated? What is the relevant progress on this investigation?
Thanks

ITFOAM: I'm sorry, I can't answer any of those questions, as I am just a user like you (not even on Apps, just regular email).
Be aware that any collaborator can re-name a file, and under certain as yet unclear circumstances that re-named file can apparently put itself into the Hidden folder, possibly even the Trash, although I have not seen that myself. You have checked both your Hidden and Bin/Trash folders I assume; if you see any files with unfamiliar names open them to be sure they aren't your missing ones in disguise.
The Google Guides monitor this forum, and I hope they will pick this up and contact you off forum to find out what is going on.
Please don't panic, I'm sure the files are out there somewhere - I am not aware of any file really disappearing that was not deleted and emptied from the bin/trash.
Hi Gill
Many thanks for your response. I appreciate it.
I did look in the hidden items and again in the deleted items file, but could not find the file.
From the responses by other people to this question, I am not the only person experiencing this.
I do hope that this will be investigated, otherwise, I will have to start looking at alternatives. It is a pity as it is a brilliant idea this google docs.
Kind Regards
I am experiencing the same problem. My spreadsheets are all there, but they appear empty when you open them. This is true for all my spreadsheets, even those in "trash." Has anybody heard anything from Google on this problem?
Same problem here as well. Missing recently uploaded docs and old ones too.
Occasionally there is a yellow message... "We are having problems and all of your documents might not be visible at this time".
What a mess.
Same problem, but mine is with old and new documents. Nothing in my account put after 2007 is showing up!!! One document disappeared while I was using it. PLEASE HELP. I have spent a lot of time making these documents!!!!
Same here. But apparently mine has been more recent. Like the OP, I only access this file on a monthly basis, make and update and that's it. I have not renamed it, I don't delete many things, and even so I still have old trash files from months ago in my trash bin. I don't have enough spreadsheets for the document to have been lost with a rename. Is there any way I can get my file back?
I have lost several docs recently. On Friday, about 10-15 docs just disappeared and then they turned up today in my folder. Is it something to do with bandwidth? It's a real concern to me because I switched from storing docs for my business from the local drive to online. Now I can't find many of them, and worse still we have to recreate them, only to find the originals turn up at random times and then disappear again. I'm thinking of abondoning googledocs, unless this is resolved. Can anyone help me?
Need some serious help - we had 1 spreadsheet in Google docs that had extremely sensitive company information. Our pc crashed and we were using Google docs for backup. Our spreadsheet is missing. Please restore this data for us. Thanks.
I have the same problem. As of yesterday, one very important document with sensitive information on it is gone. Please, help. Thanks.
I am also missing a file.
It was there and now it is not. I didnt delete it and I am the owner.
I even asked everyone with whom I have shared it...and they don't have it in their deleted bins.
I really hope google can help. it is THE most important file.
After spending hours on a speadsheet (survey )and saving..... It is now missing. I can't get anything new I attempt to save to show up on my docs list.
Help......
Google.... are you aware of this problem and trying to fix this...... How do we contact you?
I'm in the same boat. At first I thought it was because of disabling or deleting a fired employee's account, but now I know the issue is more widespread!
Going back to the email invites for these documents and clicking on the URL brings up a 404.
If there's no trust in the Cloud, there's no trust in Google! Hope this gets fixed ASAP!

<<At first I thought it was because of disabling or deleting a fired employee's account,>> If the fired employee was the owner of the docs then they would indeed disappear.
But there is something wrong at Google's end, no doubt. Let's hope the Guides are on the case.
I have just experienced this problem. A spreadsheet has disappeared. This is definitely not a mistake on my part: I have searched high and low for it and it has just disappeared. Forget all extra features it is absolutely essential that docs are not lost. If you cannot guarantee that you must have one touch backing up of all docs locally. (the current system is too labour intensive)
Just fyi, I am missing a spread sheet, or rather when I click on the file name the sheet is empty. I tried uploading it again. Still empty. I hope that this is resolved, my guess is that the file is somewhere just not visible for some reason.
Just to clarify. I uploaded an xls file. When i tried to open, it was empty. I converted the same file to Google Spreadsheet, it was there. So I now have two files, one empty, one OK. I thought that the program was supposed to do the necessary conversions, please correct my understanding if I am missing something. Other xls files open "empty" also.
My organization just had two mission critical spreadsheets disappear. I thought that it might have been because one of our Google sites users deleted the key owner login for those key documents in our google docs site. We solved that issue by having other users share it back to other appropriate staff. That worked fine for a few days. Now, noone else has access to those documents. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm scared for my precious data. I'd love some help resurrecting them before any existing backups on Google's servers are deleted.
I have done more reading on my missing spreadsheet problem. Apparently I have to upload my spreadsheets, not e-mail them. The documentation is clear about this. So if you e-mail a spreadsheet to yourself, you will get a blank spreadsheet. Of course, it would be nice if Google Docs just rejected the e-mail, but after all, it's only a computer!
Hello All.......We have been using Google docs for about a year. Today we logged in to retrieve a marketing spreadsheet that we use and it has completely disappeared. This is the first time we have had this happen but wow what a big hole in the application. Given the discussion above it appears this faullt is beyond my single instance. Is there anyone out there from google that can help. The perils of having data in the cloud. No backups, no way to retrieve data - scary.
I have experienced the same problem today. We use Google Docs for all of our companies documents so we can share them between each other. And today I went to go find a document and it was not there along with many others missing. I know that I did not delete them hense the fact that I use them quite a bit.
GOOGLE ADMIN..... PLEASE HELP US ALL!!!!! Thank you!
I am Google Apps user, like many others on this forum my company has been using Google Docs for quite sometime. Today we had a user report all of her spreadsheets are missing from Google Docs. This is the first time we've seen this- I have tried all sorts of solutions (different browsers, different computers, clearing temp Internet files, cookies etc.)- nothing restores the spreadsheets. There are no errors after logging in, just welcomes her like a new Google Docs user. Looking for help please.
I have experienced the same problem. A excel spreadsheet uploaded over a year ago has been missing for a few months now. I used and uploaded this file a number of times. but now its simply missing. I have followed all the recommendations and instructions mentioned in the FAQ section and the forums. No result. Can someone help???
Thanks
Create a new work documente write something, save and close wait for new document and u will see the old documents.
=)
My problem is similar. I have a document my wife and I use for addresses (our main contact list). It never shows up for me unless I search for it, even though it's shared by us both and even starred by me.
Any ideas?
Yesterday, a psychiatrist called and said one of his patients journals were missing. I've recommended him using Google Apps for his company which is why he calls me now. From the this forum, I can see the issue has been ongoing for at least 8 months. I stumpled upon a Greacemonkey-backup-solution but that is not going to help anyone after a file is gone missing. Its frustrating to see so many people with files disappearing
If Google want its users to upgrade to the premiere edition to get help, then they should say so. Otherwise, acknowledge the issue and help with some guidelines.
Attached is a reference to the backup-work-around, which is not perfect but better than nothing.
Well, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. I only use my docs account for my hobby, which is role play writing. I've lost several over the past few weeks. Is Google even acknowledging the problem?
We have a few spreadsheets shared among the 11 people in our office. Today (for the second time in a year), these spreadsheets have disappeared from about half of the group. The other half of the group can see them just like before. Our only hope is that these files magically re-appear, just like they did before. Other than that, I have no suggestion for recovery.
Very Frustrating. Not exactly good for productivity.
Same here, 2nd time this year, 50 employees, owners see their Docs (mostly) and half see nothing!
Yeah - we have had this problem today. A doc we use quite often became invisible to all of us. Someone had saved the link from a previous browser session and could get in - once we clicked on the link we could get int too ..and the doc has magically appeared in the list!
By the way, the name of the document has NOT been changed nor has anything else about it for 3 weeks. Many older untouched documents still visible so I don't think it is to do with the system thinking it is old...
Anyone from Google interested in helping on this? It's all radio silence on this forum as far as I can see.
same here we are sharing documents ion our organization. All documents created by me and shared with co-workers are gone as of yesterday. I have also admin account and could not sort ot the problem through admin dashboard. No sign from google on this and apparently no way to contact help desk. Did anyone got this solved?
I have had quite a lot of documents in google docs for a long time. I havent been using it much . But recently I started using it since my hard disk crashed and I wanted to store many important documents. One fine morning I see that my google docs account is "empty". More suprisingly I got a mail in my secondary mail id with a link to initiate my google account password. It looks weird. First I suspected some sort of hack. (its surprising that a hacker would delete my google docs which had nothing personal in it). But after seeing the posts here I think that its a google problem. I couldnt find the deleted docs even in the trash of google docs.It just sucks that google cant handle these things properly when they give out these applications to users for serious use. I would recommend not using google docs for any serious storage. May be smthing less important and inconsequential and even if you do store it there, make sure that you have a back up some where else which is reliable. Its high time that google lived up to the name and fame that they claim to deserve. Reliability of the basic setup must be assured first before doing many "innovative" things (like colored labels in gmail???.)..The docs that I lost were of great importance to me and now I have to work again from scratch to get back to where I was. Its always a bad thing to believe someone eyes wide shut just by going by what they say they are. I think google docs is one example.!
@kriegx, Perfectly said....In this world where simple is no more sweet.....Its
