I tried re installing gears and refreshing everything. I also tried to change my language as some other post suggested, but no dice.

I'm having the same issue with XP Media Center and Chrome 3.0.195.27.

After clearing my cache and cookies, the error changed to "Status: Offline. No connection available", even though my connection works just fine.

Today I update my chrome to 4.0.222.12 dev for windows.Now It's fine to sync my docs without the error message.Thank you^_^

I'm having the same problem (still) using FF 3.5...it just started last Sunday after the interface change. I can upload via Safari (which I hate), but Firefox won't let me. One tech guy on campus can from FF, one gets the same server error message. Gah!

I still have the same problem: Errors occurred while updating software and syncing documents. Failed to initialize syncing for the applications: Google Documents, Google Presentations Failed to update software for the applications: Docs Home page

Still have the same problem with chrome 3.0 on XP SP2, when switch to IE 7, it appears the following words"(The uploaded presentation has too many objects. Please delete some objects and try again.)".

Frustrating that this doesn't work in Chrome, let alone FF 3.5.4 - many uninstalls, re-installs, and still the same sync failure:

The same problem for me.  XP Home with Chrome & IE 7.  Cleared the cache and coockies, re-enabled Gears, reinstalled Chrome, changed the doc language, tried few other tricks from this forum.  Nothing helps.  The problem started recently.  Prior to that I had no issues with this whatsoever.

I also get the same problem, very easy to re-create, I've tested on Mac OS X, Win XP, IE8, Chrome, Firefox, same Gears version. The problem appears everywhere. Tested several languages also.

Same problem here; same error message.
I have have tried Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer on 2 different computers: one running Vista, the other Windows 7. I get this same error message every time.
Any ideas?

having the same issue but, specifically, it says "An error occurred while updating software. Failed to update software for the applications: Docs Home page". i've tried synching many times and the software that fails to update varies.

I just found out that I could actually enable offline mode again (I had online mode disabled and couldn't re-enable it).

I get "Failed to initialize syncing for the applications: Google Presentations".  Presentations will permit to start and show the presentation but not edit it.

Me too, I get this problem almost every day.  Yes, I am connected to the internet.  No, I'm not stupid, just frustrated.

Browser: Chrome 3.0.195.33
Refreshing cache, etc.

I also get the message: "Status: Offline. No connection available"

Clicked on "Reconnect Now", nothing happens.

We're having trouble reproducing this following the latest batch of fixes. For those of you still encountering the problem, does resetting and re-enabling offline access resolve the issue?
