I have the exact same problem. My search box no longer offers search suggestions and search history. I am still on IE 6. The search box worked fine until recently. I've tried reinstalling Google toolbar and double checked IE's content setup. But, nothing is working. Anyone has an idea on what happened?
Hi tigandthump and novice973, Thanks for the head's up. If you're still seeing this issue, I'd like to investigate further. It'd be helpful if you provided the following info: - Does reinstalling the latest Toolbar fix the issue you're seeing? To check, visit the Toolbar homepage at http://www.google.com/toolbar- What operating system and service pack are you using? For example, I'm on Windows XP SP3. If you're not sure if you have the latest Microsoft security updates, visit the Microsoft Update homepage at http://update.microsoft.com/- Finally, what language of Toolbar are you running and what Google site are you using to search? To check, click the Toolbar's wrench icon to view your Google site. For example, "United States of America (.com)." Thanks, Brian
Hi, Reinstalling toolboar does not fix the problem. I am on XP SP3 and have updated with the latest security updates just a few days ago. The language of the toolbar is US. Hope you can help. Thanks.
Sorry Brian,
I have the same issues, tried what you suggested but still doesn't work. Something very strange and probably obvious to correct this issue - same one that I have but can't find a solution to correct the "suggest searches" and the drop down menu - neither are working in a similar fashion as noted above. Maybe someone at Google isn't sleeping and they can offer the real fix. Any other ideas? Thanks.
I'm having the very same problem for about 2 days. XP SP3, everything updated, US site. Uninstalled and reinstalled toolbar, and still no pull down history.
I have been having the same problem for several days now. Its very frustrating! I found a great site for vacation rentals the other day that i neglected to bookmark, but i thought, "its ok, i can just re-do the search from the pull-down menu". But the pull-down is gone, and i must have used some unique search terms, because i CANT find the site again. = (
Its been several days since brianrose checked in, is Google actively looking into this issue?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for filing the report. The team is currently looking into the issue. I have a few follow-up questions to help us investigate further:
-Ensure that the 'Suggest searches as you type checkbox is checked.' For instructions, check out this Help Center article:
-Try disabling and re-enabling 'store search history on my computer' via the checkbox in Toolbar options.
-If the above steps don't work, try going to the IE Tools menu > Internet Options > Security. Then, check to ensure that Google.com is not in your 'Restricted Sites' and add Google.com to your 'Trusted Sites.' Here is some more information from the Microsoft IE help page:
Please let me know if any of these steps works for you.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Dave,
Also, please re-download the latest version of Google Toolbar here:
Thanks,
Matt
Tried all of the above in order, shutting down and restarting the browser after each change, and then did them all over again after downolading the toolbar again. didn't work.

Doing something else, I noticed a reference to toolbar 4 in my registry. So I uninstalled toolbar 6, and then ran a registry cleaner to get rid of all references to google toolbar. Rebooted and reinstalled, and still nothing. Could it have something to do with still being a holdout running IE6?
Dave
I am having this same problem I unistalled google bar, reinstalled the most current one. I am running windows XP and IE 6.
I am also having this problem. I am using Firefox and Vista. It started Friday night.
I spent some time playing around today, and determined the problem is toolbar 6 compatibility with IE6. I installed IE8, and the history worked. However I had the various reported issues of IE8 problems with my display. I uninstalled IE8, going back to IE6. I did a repair install of IE6, and that made no difference. Then I went out an found a version of google toolbar 5, and installed that, and the history worked. But of course, the toolbar quickly updated itself to version 6, and the history no longer worked. I hope this helps the folks at google figure out the incompatibility.

I guess we're waiting for Google to reply to dpetty's 8/31/09 post.

Hi everyone,
Do you know if JavaScript is disabled, or if you're running an add-on (like NoScript) or security software that disables scripts? If so, search suggestions don't work unless JavaScript is enabled. For steps on how to enable JavaScript, see these articles:
Thanks,
Brian
Same problem; XP-Pro sp3, IE6. Problem started about a month ago after rebooting. Before shutting down, I got something like "Loading updates. Do not turn off power. The computer will shut down when finished." Hope this helps.
Turning noscript off helped. But um... noscript is off, i cant have that >_>;
If you click on tools, options, content tab, auto complete settings, and then make sure the tick box is checked next to address bar. This should bring your drop down list back on the address bar.
Just ran into this problem today . The drop down history/search is no longer on the left of my screen or my box to sign in to google . System restore was no help .
