The customize button doesn't work.
Update:
Yes, I'm on IE 6. I can't update or install anything b/c I'm on a work computer. They don't like us fiddling with it. I just want my Google back w/o having to mess with the DLL files or whatever. I'll just use the side bar search until a fix is found or I can get my IT person to update us to current IE.
Blah!! Still not happy.

I am having the same problem. I have used the google.reg file in the past and it no longer works.
ME TOO:( Somebody fix it!! I tried the the customize button and it said "Oops this isn't the page I wanted" and i tried to edit the registery GRRRRRRR!
I can't believe this hasn't been noticed more. Bing seems to have hijacked many user programmed serach preferences away from Google. I've also noticed that some websites whose searches had previously been powered by google has also been taken over by bing. Since I didn't know what bing was, I really thought my computer was infected with malicious software (well, actually....it WAS) Sounds like classic microsoft behavior. I guess it shows how few people use the address bar autosearch feature.
I've got the same problem. What is the fix? Infuriating.
Ditto - someone please find a fix!
I think you all should be posting in the Microsoft forum, I seriously doubt that Google is doing this to you.

Maybe instead of complaining, you people should upgrade to a more MODERN browser. I am a web developer and I can tell you this right now, you IE6 users deserve every single bug and problem you can get. Now you know how US web developers feel when a website of ours won't display on your browser of choice.
Enjoy Bing by the way IE6 users... It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of people.
Hey DigitalSea!
I am so sorry my choice of browsers does not meet your high standards... I'm sure that you are someone of above average intelligence. Thank you for the put down... It does show how bright you are. Stay at your computer. Do not try to interact with real people. You will be disappointed. We are sorry we are not up to your standards.
Falling on my sword...............
This should now be fixed.
By all accounts Microsoft has apparently FIXED THE ISSUE [well mostly] At 330AM EST checked my alternate PC and found IE6 functioning properly, however
clicking:
Search/Customize sequence still nets the Ooops! page from Live .com instead of a list Search provider choices.
Still, not a problem since it is all in the past,
A big THANK You! to Doppio for the workaround with the " http://www.slurdge.org/utilities/ie-search-hook " suggestion. FYI, if you use this, it may insure this wont happen again.
And Sorry DigitalSeal... you seem to be outnumbered here.
In checking the other forums regarding this, there seems to be a heated discussion about the use of IE6 as opposed to other browsers but it may be of interest to note that IE6 has an18% market share. IE6 is very important to corporate networks as well. Slashdot.org has a discussion today that claims that IE6 is the undisputed champion when it comes to corporate computers.I know this to be true in many large organizations. The main reason for this is that one or more mission critical web based applications still need IE6 for compatibility. Upgrades are available, but the pricetag is high. »tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid···2/134224 The article has links to the statistics. IE6 and IE7 are neck and neck.
in addition there is a serious bug in IE7 and IE8 in that if you do a Windows repair install after upgrading IE, you will not be able to connect to the Internet. I'm not interested in upgrading with that kind of situation still not fixed. It's because MS integrated IE so tightly into the operating system. No other browser behaves that way.
When all is said and done, the Wife is test driving Chrome on her PC... this should be interesting.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for reporting this problem. We've been monitoring it very closely and are pleased that, as rustybrick noted, Microsoft is now reporting that the problem should be fixed. If anyone is still having this problem, I'd very much appreciate your posting here to let me know.
Thanks, Jaime
I'm a firefox user and Bing hijacked my search as well.
My firefox is still hijacked even after trying every work around out list here and other places.
I am very happy to report that when I tried to use both my IE and FF browsers, for search today, they worked with my preferred Google default search.
Looks like Microsoft has fixed the problem.
Thanks Google, for helping to put some heat on Microsoft and pushing them to fix this problem.
HI Everyone, If you type in your search words in the address bar of Firefox, Type 'about:config' look for the strings 'browser.search.defaulturl' and 'Keywordurl', and you will find that is your problem. I still working on the fix in the Reg, so will again soon. BLX133 - ON The Box
HI Everyone, 'browser.search.defaulturl' string should charged to 'http://www.google.co.uk/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=' (the .co.uk can be changed to .com, or DOT what ever) the 'Keywordurl' string should be also carry the same value. BLX133 - ON The Box
I don't think anyone here has answered the question? Since MS has Bing up and running several days ago. no matter what browser I use ( chrome, FF IE) any search made in the address bar defaults to Bing? I hate this type of carry on and would love to hear how to fix it. I use Chrome if that helps.
I too am having the same problem with Bing. I hate Bing and especially detest Microsoft. This is pure arrogance and if nothing else, it is Microsoft cheating to win the browser wars and more cheating to win the search engine wars. I've had lots of problems with IE7, IE8 and removed them both then began to use IE6 again. About the only solution I can come up with is to totally format my system and reinstall xp and never ever upgrade to IE7 or IE8 again. I've had problems with Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Netscape. IE6 is here to stay for me but I do not want Bing or Microsoft to force me to use their crap.
I have posted how to change this. Dose anyone every read replies fully or just the first question?
hey blx...since i do not use firefox and since the problem in on ie6, why not put a solution for ie6 instead of crappy firefox? by the way, if you're going to write anything...please...please...learn how to spell correctly. this is very important when entering specifics into browsers, search engines, registries, etc.. by the way, your so-called solution does not work.
everytime i upgrade to either ie7 or ie8, i lose connections unexpectedly and it always seems to happen either during surveys or when buying something online. i've had the same problems with firefox, chrome, and safari. ie6 does not give me any problems. i've performed recovery console on my system while using ie7 and 8 and all the other browsers except ie6 and connections are still lost. i've upgraded my router's firmware several times and the connection problem still exists using all browsers except ie6. i've ran antivirus and antispyware scans and found nothing. i've even gone as far as totally formatting my hard drive and installing windows xp pro sp2 and sp3 again and this does not solve the connection issues i've been having when using ie7, ie8, chrome, firefox, and safari. my system is not the only system that has this problem. i repair computers for a living and i get about 10 calls daily about this same issue...bing hijack and connection problems with all browsers except ie6. if microsoft had such a fix, it would be in windows update. but...it is not there and probably never will be. i've also installed home edition of xp and still have the same problems. ie6 is here to stay for me. it is the only browser that is reliable.
I use ie7 and keep resetting my homepage to Google but after a few days I find that Bing shows up as my homepage. I have read that Microsoft fixed the bug in ie6 that caused this but have not found any answers to how to fix this in ie7. I can't find anything on microsoft.com either. Does anyone have an answer?
now i am having another problem. for reasons unknown at this time, somehow bing no longer shows up and my automatic updates have been disabled as well as remote access too. i am the only user of this system so how did someone change my system without my permission and knowledge? and then whatever or whoever changed my system has now jacked with me again. now when i type in dell for example into the browser and push ctrl-enter on my keyboard, ie6 now takes me to c:\mydocuments/user/favorites. this is not right as well, what the heck is going on? how did my system get changed without my knowledge or permission? i was out of town for 3 days and before i left, my system sent me to bing and after returning home, my system sends me to my favorites. my home was locked up when i left. as additional security, i removed my hard drive and placed it into a locked safe until my return. i am the only one that knows the access to the safe. i am also hiding behind a router and have the ping function disabled as well. soooo...how did my system get changed? i never made any changes. is there a hidden port that only microsoft is aware of that allows them to make changes although we have no knowledge of it nor have we given them permission to enter our system and make changes? this is getting to be bs. and now we're being hacked by microsoft.
i checked my automatic update settings and noticed it was turned off so i then entered the admin tools and opened services and found the automatic update service was running. so, i shut it off and disabled it as well. i also then opened my web browser's internet options and clicked on security then added microsoft to the list of restricted sites. perhaps this will stop them. i still think they have one or more hidden ports they use to do whatever they want to systems and do so recklessly without owner's permission and knowledge. i firmly believe microsoft is out to destroy anyone that is still using not only xp but those of us that have problems with ie7 and ie8 too. their childish cheating ways have helped me to decide to purchase a mac and without any microsoft software. i will also recommend my customers to do the same thing too.
I emailed my relative who works at Google and turns out the fix is incredibly easy!
Try this: with your cursor in the address bar, right click - you should a pop-up with the bottom choice being "Edit search engines ..." Google should be on that list. Select it, click Make default, and bye-bye Bing.
that bing garbage is becoming worst than the ask bar I wish there was a way to prevent those problems in IE as well as FF
