I was able to turn the GV activation on in Gizmo but when I tried a call out, it still deducted money. If that changes, please let us all know.

Hahah I can't get gizmo to properly work with GV. The thing is that you have to call a number ringing your gizmo from the GV page and then pick it up your gizmo. Its free that way but for some reason my mic keeps crapping out but I can still hear the other person so it works i guess it just depends on your soundcard or something. You understand what im saying? You dont dial anything in the gizmo.
PapaG...have you looked at this thread yet? http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=16817c950860c1fb&hl=enIt will help you to catch up to speed in that Gizmo will be allowing GV people to dial out from Gizmo going through the GV number. Currently, we can use the web interface to have GV call into Gizmo then connect to a destination number. However, that is about to change. If you log into your Gizmo5 account, you will see the change. However, it is probably not completely implemented yet.
"PapaG...you should delete that quote that since it was directed at someone else giving advice on this issue...not you. When he deleted his answer...I also deleted mine."Whoops sorry
i wonder if the GV activation will work with the in-browser gizmo thing. then i wouldn't need to download anything if i wanted to call out on another computer...
Moo...I tried using the in-browser gizmo last night after activating my GV on in Gizmo and I was charged for the minute call. Do you have the ability to test it this morning?
Also, at this time, Gizmo has a choice of activating GV for 1. Use for U.S. calls only, 2. Use for all calls, and 3. Off. When I click "Use for all calls" and save, it would only save for "Use for U.S. calls only."
My outbound calls from Gizmo thru GV are not being recorded in GV logs. Does anyone else see theirs recorded?
What are you using to make the outbound calls?
I just made a call with my softphone using the Gizmo line...it does not seem to record the outgoing call in GV at this time.
Also, while it is free using my softphone and the Gizmo line to dial out, when I tried to use the Gizmo web dialer for the second time, I was once again charged for the outgoing call.
My callout credits are not charged on G5 from softphone or PAP2 ATA with G5 callout thru GV. However I see no log entries in GV interface.
LHM...trying going on to the www.gizmo5.com initial page. On the left handside you will find a web based Gizmo dialer. Log in to your account on that dialer and try a call out. I seem to get charged for using that, not on my softphone.
@LHM:
There is a known issue with Gizmo calls not showing up in the Google Voice history logs.
I made an ATA dialout call this morning after adding GV credentials to G5 and was charged from G5 callout credit.
@SnerdlyBosco See if setting in ATA "Make Call Without Reg:Yes" will work. Just a guess.
@LTN I did that and it just rings once and disconnects. Not sure why as login shows my callout credits.
@LHM:
Set "Make call without reg" to YES, tried a call, and got the Gizmo error recording that "callout credits are required."
@SnerdlyBosco
That setting should not make a difference. IMO
@LHM:
I've reset "Make a call without reg" to NO, and will await official word of this G5 Google Voice Calling feature...
Is this new feature on the Gizmo5 website ("Google Voice Calling") officially authorized by Google, or is Gizmo5 doing this on their own?
Gizmo5 makes us provide our GoogleVoice username AND even the GoogleVoice password, but they did not ask for the GoogleVoice phone number which you'd think they would need.
Are folks happy giving Gizmo5 their Google password?!
"Gizmo5 makes us provide our GoogleVoice username AND even the GoogleVoice password, but they did not ask for the GoogleVoice phone number which you'd think they would need"
Why as there is only one # per Gmail account. You can be confident that it is sanctioned by GV as they could disallow the connection very easily. Some will be happy, some won't. YMMV
If you do not have a SIP phone or an ATA the Gizmo callout thru GV is redundant as you can do the same through GV web interface. If you do have SIP hardware then this is the landline/telco killer setup. Google now becomes your new landline.
@LHM:
Can you point toward an "optimum" setup for a PAP2 for Gizmo5 and GV operation?
You can find optimum set up for Gizmo 5 on their site and forums. There are no tweeks to settings that I can think of that are peculiar to GV other than DTMF set to InBand after verifying GV #.
@SnerdlyBosco: Are you registering to G5 using your G5 username? If so, it's necessary to use the 11-digit G5 SIP number instead. Prior to this new service, it didn't matter.
@Andre2:
Thanks. That fixed the big part. I just placed a call via the PAP2; no Gizmo callout credits used.
Through trying to make this work, however, I've done something that's preventing incoming calls. I just tried to initiate a call from the GV website via GV and couldn't get the Gizmo/PAP2 to ring.
One step forward...
SnerdlyBosco...have you tried calling with a cell or landline?
With the new GV call out option in Gizmo, has anyone tried the "Forwarding Gizmo5 Calls" to another actual number without getting charged yet?
I would think any forwarding other than to SIP #s would require G5 callout credits. G5 has always charged to forward to PSTN #s. They are SIPing in to GV.
@LTN:
After setting up for "Google Voice Calling" in Gizmo, I was unable to make a click to call, using Gizmo/PAP2.
I set the Gizmo/PAP2 up for forwarding, called from another line, and it rang fine.
Then, I tried click to call again and it worked fine.
Must've needed to shake something loose...
Working now: Outgoing calls on Gizmo/PAP2 via GV; incoming forwarded GV calls to Gizmo/PAP2.
@SnerdlyBosco
As in pickup POTS phone, dial tone, call usa # call connects and all at no charge to you? :)
@LHM:
Yes. POTS phone connected to PAP2, set up for Gizmo. Added GV credentials to Gizmo this morning.
Dial tone, TT dialing to 10-digit US number. No outbound minutes charged by Gizmo; free from GV.
Do you have a long delay (5-10 seconds) after dialing before you hear the ringing start? I do, but am not sure if it's a dialplan problem, or a problem at G5's end. I'm using a PAP2T with the factory default dialplan.
@Andre2:
Just dialed a call; between the press of the last key and the start of ringback tones was 19 seconds.
I, too, am using the factory default dialplan on the PAP2.
@Andre2
Dialplan defaults to 6 seconds on call out for most settings.
PAP2 is very configurable does just about everything but fly. >>>

http://www.scribd.com/doc/ 238209/LinksysSipura-Dial-Plan-tutorial
On my softphone, where I explicitly indicate the end of the number when I press Enter, the delay seems to be less than 5 seconds, so I suspect the dialplan for the PAP2T needs to be tweaked, but apparently there's a delay on G5's end as well.
Here's the PAP2T factory default dialplan. Maybe someone more familiar with dialplan syntax can say if it would cause a delay with 10- or 11-digit dialing?
(*xx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)
My dialplan looks like this ( *xxx[x*].<:@sipbroker.com>|<:1>[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx|<:1615>[2-9]xxxxxx|1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx|*xxT| <911:16158628600S0>| <411:18003733411>| 011x.T| [x*][x*].)
This will make sense once you get familiar with DPs.
After dialing the number press # button, it has the same effect as send on your cell phone as it will dial straight away.
Calling the echo test number from the PAP2T, there is a delay of 8-9 seconds using #, and about 20 seconds without it.
My previous test was using 10-digit dialing. Using 11-digit dialing without the #, the delay is about 9 seconds, the same as 10-digit dialing with the #. I recall reading that it is difficult to set up a dialplan to handle 10-digit dialing, so what's probably happening is that the default PAP2T dialplan can make the call immediately with 11-digit dialing, but has to wait with 10 digit dialing. So I'll just use 11 digits. It should be relatively easy to modify the dialplan to handle fast 7-digit dialing, though (using a default area code).
How are you guys finding call quality?
