Technical Lead/Manager - Santa Monica
This position is based in Santa Monica, CA.
The area: Engineering Management
Google's engineering teams exhibit high energy, deep technical skills and a drive to get things done. Our Engineering Managers need to be technical leaders and motivators who are comfortable leading these teams in a high-pressure, dynamic – and global – environment. Jobs are broadly defined and interact with Product Management, Sales and other groups at Google.
The role: Technical Lead/Manager
We are looking for Tech Leads/Managers (TLMs) who can own and drive technical projects and provide leadership for a group of 6-12 engineers in an innovative and fast-paced environment. They will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects.
This position is *not* a pure management position; TLMs are expected to contribute technically to their project. Our interview process will emphasize technical skills and management/organizational skills equally.
Requirements:
- Strong programming capabilities in at least two of the following: Java, C++, and Python.
- Very technical and technologically savvy.
- Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge, and experience with multi-tiered mission-critical systems preferred.
- Substantial knowledge of UNIX/Linux or Windows environments.
- Capable of working closely with product management to ensure we're building the best products.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Strong leader capable of motivating and energizing the very best software engineers, as well as gaining their respect. Ability to manage a team of 6-12 software engineers, including task planning and code reviews.
- Demonstrated expertise in problem solving and technical innovation capable of "rolling-up sleeves and getting hands dirty".
- Proven ability to share knowledge with more junior team members via a formal mentoring relationship, reviewing code, reviewing design docs, giving technical talks, teaching classes, or as a consultant on projects.
- 5-10 years experience (including time working towards advanced degrees and/or experience).
- Computer Science degree strongly preferred.
