The Platforms team designs and builds the software, hardware, computing platform and networking technologies that power all of Google's services.
Platforms Software Engineers work on all aspects of Google's system software efforts including firmware, kernel, operating system and tools. You'll be responsible for the platform design, stability and performance in one of the following groups, depending on your experience and interest: 1) Embedded Software, 2) System Software, Firmware and Kernel Development, 3) Performance/Power Monitoring and Tuning, or 4) Networking. Your work may also include projects involving next-generation networking systems and architecture, distributed systems and routing. You'll work in small teams under a technical lead who reports to an Engineering Director. With a degree in computer science at the BS, MS or PhD level, you bring proficiency in C and Linux and enjoy working with low-level software.
Platforms Hardware Engineers perform a range of roles in the design and building of the hardware that forms Google's backbone. Depending on your assignment(s), you'll design and build the hardware products that meet our unique networking needs, or you'll work on server architecture, design and implementation, or performance and power consumption optimization. As a Hardware Test Engineer or Hardware Design Engineer, you'll work in small teams under a Technical Lead and report to an Engineering Director. You hold an electrical engineering or computer science degree at the BS, MS or PhD level and are proficient in areas such as board design, power monitoring and tuning and hardware test.
Mechanical engineers are responsible for packaging and delivering our infrastructure from the chip to the data center level in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the BS, MS, or PhD level, you should have experience/course work in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and structural design.
