Overview: Getting Started Guide

Get started now! Go to m.google.com/maps in your phone's mobile web browser.

Download Google Maps to your phone, and never carry a paper map again.

Open your phone's mobile web browser and go to m.google.com/maps. Note: On iPhone & iPod touch, Android, Palm webOS, and some phones, Google Maps may already be installed on your phone.

Select the install link if available to install Google Maps for mobile. If an installation link is unavailable, check that you have a supported phone.

Continue the download and installation steps on your phone, allowing network access or accepting prompts when asked.

Once the download is complete, look for the Google Maps icon on your home screen or in a folder on your phone such as Main, Applications, Games, My Stuff, My Own, or My Downloads.

My Location (watch video). See your location on a map, even if you don't have GPS.
Business listings. Search for any business or category of interest.
Driving directions. Thanks to My Location, you don't even have to enter your starting point.
Latitude. See your friends' locations and share your location. Open Maps and then select "Join Latitude." Learn more.
Transit & walking directions (watch video). Get routes and schedules to travel via subway, bus, or on foot.
Street View (watch video). View street-level imagery of businesses and turns in directions.
Layers. New! View layers of geographic information (e.g. My Maps, Wikipedia, Transit).
Traffic. Real-time traffic helps you find the fastest route.
Enterprise. BlackBerry administrators can deploy Maps for BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Note: Features vary by phone type. We're working to make all features available on as many phones as possible.

Find yourself on the map: Press zero [0] or open the menu and select "My Location" to center the map on your current approximate location. Note: All phones may not support this feature.
Find the nearest pizza restaurant: Open the menu, select "Search", and then enter "pizza" to search the viewable area of the map or "pizza [city or zip code]" to specify a city or area to search. Select a search result to see hours or reviews.
Get directions: Found the best nearby pizza place? Select it from the map or list to get more options and choose the directions option to get driving, transit, or walking directions to it.
Avoid traffic: See if there's traffic on the way by selecting "Traffic" from the Maps main menu or the "Traffic" layer from the Layers menu to turn on real-time traffic data where available.
