Hardware and software requirements

Print
The following requirements and recommendations apply to Google SketchUp and Google SketchUp Pro.

Note: If you have projected textures in a SketchUp model and use a ATI Rage Pro or a Matrox G400 graphics card, the textures may appear incorrect. Disabling hardware acceleration will work around this issue.

Windows XP
  • Software
    • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
    • Google SketchUp Pro requires .NET Framework version 2.0. For more information about the .NET framework, click here.

Note: SketchUp will run on 64bit versions of Windows, but it will run as a 32bit application.
  • Recommended hardware
    • 2+ GHz processor.
    • 2+ GB RAM.
    • 500 MB of available hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 512+ MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.
SketchUp's performance relies heavily the graphics card driver and it's ability to support OpenGL 1.5 or higher. Historically, people have seen problems with ATI Radeon cards and Intel based cards with SketchUp. We don't recommend using these graphics cards with SketchUp at this time.
    • 3 button, scroll-wheel mouse.
  • Minimum hardware
    • 600 MHz processor.
    • 128 MB RAM.
    • 128 MB of available hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 128 MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.
  • Pro licensing
    • SketchUp doesn't support network licensing over a Wide Area Network (WAN). For more information, visit the Licensing Options page.
    • At this time, licenses aren't cross platform compatible. For example, a Windows license won't work on the Mac OS X version of SketchUp Pro.

Windows Vista and Windows 7
  • Software
    • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
    • Google SketchUp Pro requires .NET Framework version 2.0. For more information about the .NET framework, click here.

    • 16 GB of total hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 256 MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.

Mac OS X
  • Software
    • Mac OS X® 10.4.1+, 10.5+, and 10.6+.
    • QuickTime 5.0 and web browser for multimedia tutorials.
    • Safari.
Neither Boot Camp nor Parallels are supported environments.
  • Recommended hardware
    • 2.1+ GHz G5/Intel™ processor.
    • 2 GB RAM.
    • 400 MB of available hard-disk space.

Unsupported environments

Windows 2000
Google SketchUp 7 takes advantage of User Interface (UI) standards that aren't available in Windows 2000. As such, Google SketchUp 7 doesn't support Windows 2000.

Linux
A Linux version of Google SketchUp isn't available at this time. However, you may be interested to see how others have had success running Google SketchUp on Linux using Wine.

VMWare
At this time, SketchUp doesn't support operation in a VMWare environment.

Note: Google SketchUp will run on multiple-processor machines; however, Google SketchUp will only use one processor. Google SketchUp doesn't support hyperthreading or multithreading at this time.
