To thank our clients for a great year we created a special HTML5 mobile-to-browser experiment. On xmastunes.db-n.com visitors can compose their own tune using the ringtones of 12 different devices. Our goal was to share the power of modern web technology – something we want to focus more on our future projects.

The Building Blocks

We wanted to create a unique experience by controlling a range of smartphones displayed on the website using your personal smartphone. Thanks to HTML5 and WebSocket technology we were able to connect smartphones to the page and use it as a controller to compose personal tunes. The most problems were solved by using JavaScript. On the server we used node.js with the libraries Socket.IO and Express and on the client, we relied on SoundManager, CreateJS and of course jQuery. The complete visual setup is build within Cinema 4D, thanks to CreateJS we were able to animate every single smartphone an
