The Ping-Pong Hangout

the rundown

Google had recently launched the Google+ Hangouts API, a new tool for developers and marketers. GSP wanted to test the limits of the new API and create a never-been-done-before social game using the already-popular Hangouts platform. We teamed up with Google to build a first-of-its-kind social campaign using the new Hangouts API as the backbone of the game.

The Building Blocks

We built a game using the Hangouts API, using some of the most beloved features of Google+ Hangouts (facial recognition and Hangout effects) and built a game that allowed creatives from various agencies to compete against each other. Fueled by our own desire to challenge our industry brethren, GSP launched the world’s first Ping-Pong Hangout tournament, a place where advertising’s finest could go head-to-head.

The Results

Rather than telling creatives how to use Google+, we chose to show them by engaging them in a game that would tap into their competitive streaks and get them thinking about Google+ as a social platform for creativity.
