What is Google in Your Language?
Through Google in Your Language (GIYL), individual users can help
translate Google's products into languages we don't currently offer. Best
of all, anyone with a Google account can sign up! Signing up for GIYL
won't affect your Google or Gmail settings, and signing up doesn't require
you to translate Google pages.
How do I add languages to my GIYL account?
You can add languages to your account by following these steps:
- Make sure you're signed in to your Google account. (You'll know you're
signed in if you see your email address in the top-right corner of the
page. If you don't see it, just click Sign in.)
- From the GIYL homepage, click the My Account link in the
top-right corner.
- On the right side, under My Products, click the Edit
link next to Google in Your Language.
- Select the languages into which you'd like to translate by clicking
on them. To select multiple languages, and to make sure that the
languages you already have in your account stay activated, hold the
CTRL key (or the Command key on a Mac) while clicking your desired
languages.
- Click the Save button to save your changes.
My translation is 100% complete. Why isn't it live?
All translations are reviewed before they're launched, so if you don't see
a translation you completed, we're probably still reviewing it. We really
appreciate your assistance and your patience, and we'll launch the fully
translated product as soon as our review is complete.
Why aren't all products available for translation in all languages?
For certain products in higher volume languages, we have paid translators
who manage the task. But even if a certain product isn't available in your
language of choice, we may still need your help on other products in that
language. We encourage you to browse our list of projects available to
volunteers!
I want to translate Google products into a language I don't see on this
list. How can I do that?
Right now, we're unable to support more languages in GIYL. However, we're
working hard to enlarge this program, and when we add new languages to the
program, we'll add them to the list of available languages on the account
editing page.
What if I have more questions?
If you have additional questions, try our
translators forum, where you can search past discussions for an answer
or post your question for other members of the group.
If you need to contact us, you can
send us an email. We
read every message and make improvements to the product based on your
feedback. However, we're unable to reply to emails unless we can provide
information that isn't already available online.
