Breathe Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I've been driving for an hour
Just talking to the rain
You say I've been driving you crazy
And it's keeping you away
So just give me one good reason
Tell me why I should stay
'Cause I don't wanna waste another moment
Saying things we never meant to say

[Pre-Chorus]
And I, take it just a little bit
I, hold my breath and count to ten
I've, been waiting for a chance to let you in

[Chorus]
If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know, everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me, you'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe

[Verse 2]
Well, it's all so overrated
In not saying how you feel
So you end up watching chances fade
And wondering what's real
[Pre-Chorus]
And I, give you just a little time
I, wonder if you realize
I've, been waiting 'til I see it in your eyes

[Chorus]
If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know, everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me, you'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe

[Bridge]
Breathe
So I whisper in the dark
Hoping you'll hear me
Do you hear me?

[Chorus]
If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know, everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me, you'll see
Everything is alright
Yeah, yeah
(Everything is alright)
Everything is alright, if I just breathe, breathe
[Outro]
I've been driving for an hour
Just talking to the rain

Genius Annotation

Breathe” is the second single from Michelle Branch’s second studio album Hotel Paper (2003). Branch co-wrote the song with producer John Shanks, who also co-wrote her first single “Everywhere”.

In “Breathe”, Branch is reflecting alone about the current state of her relationship. While her lover has been distant and non-communicative, Branch tries to calm down by reminding herself to ‘breathe’. Branch doesn’t necessarily want to end things, but she expresses the need for both parties to communicate better about their feelings if they want to stay together.

Genius Answer

On the set of the Breathe video, I got in a fight with the director cause he wanted me to wear a bustier and hire a choreographer. It’s insane what people have asked me to do…"
