If there is one thing that I think the world needs, it is rest. I am so excited for the upcoming holiday season because I hope it means rest for my family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers on the street, many of whom I can see the anguish in their eyes. I have never seen so many people in a manic state of stress. This year has been challenging, and it shows.

I have found myself amid a world of stress this year. In May, it came to a head when the right side of my body began to go numb, and areas of my head would tingle in stressful situations. After many tests, the neurologist told me that it was stress. I knew that I needed to change my life, including leaving my job, slowing down, and beginning the road to recovery.

Although the road to recovery has taken many twists and turns this year, it started in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Cool name for a town, huh? Something about this town brought me peace and a true sense of rest.

Welcome to Travelers Rest

When Sean and I entered the town of Travelers Rest, I remember topping a hill and looking out onto a magnificent mountain range. I blurted to Sean, “South Carolina has mountains?” As the scenery unfolded, a sense of calmness came upon me. When we pulled into this upstate town, I was mentally and physically exhausted. All I wanted was to “get away” from stress and slow down. When visiting Travelers Rest, I did not have much on the agenda. Usually, I am a destination camper, looking for fun things to do in the area. However, I just wanted to unwind and release everything I had built up from a very taxing job.

KOA Travelers Rest

We had booked the Travelers Rest KOA a few months back. Please know the KOA is not just for campers. They have beautiful cabins that sit right on the river. I recommend staying at Travelers Rest KOA, whether you come in a car or a truck, solo traveling, or taking a multi-generational trip.

With not much on the agenda, Sean and I thought that we would plan each day as it came. The town is located an hour from Ashville, North Carolina, about 30 minutes from Greenville, South Carolina, and with many towns to explore along the way. We spent A LOT of time walking the campground, reading our Kindles, and visiting the surrounding area.

The KOA was a beauty. A creek runs along the campground. The KOA has the absolute friendliest owners, and the amenities are fantastic. I want to share the campground and some exploration that we did while on our trip to Travelers Rest with you today.

Traveler’s Rest KOA

The Traveler’s Rest KOA is owned and operated by Jason and Rebecca Tubb. The Tubbs began the KOA for a different pace of life to raise their children, and I can only imagine what a blessing it has been. Check out their lodging and amenities!

Lodging

Travelers Rest KOA has both campsites and cabins available to rent.

The cabins are spacious and sit right along the river as well!

Amenities

The KOA in Travelers Rest has amenities for all ages, including a pool, games, a dog park, basketball, playgrounds, gem mining, and more!

The kids will love the variety of activities while camping.

One evening at the campground, a Greenville news station came to the KOA to do a story! See if you can find us!

The Ambiance

The KOA was genuinely serene from the well-maintained facilities to the beautiful landscape.

Great Eats

While in Travelers Rest, Sean and I found some great restaurants. Farmhouse Tacos was amazing!

Probably my favorite restaurant find on the entire trip was about 3 miles away from the KOA. It was a little diner in Travelers Rest called the Hungry Drover.

We ate breakfast at the Drover, and each time we return to the area, this is a must-stop!

Day Trips from Travelers Rest

For day trips, we ventured out to Asheville, North Carolina (for the views, of course… and maybe some outlet shopping), as well as to the BMW museum and factory tour in Greer, South Carolina.

Of course, we had to stop and check out some of the state’s top-rated barbeque at Carolina BBQ in Spartanburg.

One rainy afternoon, a rainbow came to remind me of God’s promises and power. It was one of the prettiest that I have ever witnessed, and there could have been no better timing for me to receive the message.

If you need peace and solace, I can’t think of a better place to visit. Whether you rent a cabin or pull your camper to the campground, I have no doubt that you will love this town and KOA as much as we do. Let the Tubbs know that Loving Living Green sent you!
