Went here for a friends birthday dinner that was hosted in the main dining room. This place was simply amazing and had so much character. The owners of the in were so nice and accommodating. They were great at hosting and give the guest their space. The meal and presentation was so nice. We also got to take a tour of the inn and it was so beautiful. Hopefully in the future we will get to come back and stay here!

We have family in the area and we drive up to visit at least once a year. When we googled hotels The RIver Edge Mansion popped up. We had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and weren't sure what to expect. This place exceeded our expectations. The mansion itself is beautiful. Every time we walked around the house we discovered more treasures, everything from the molding to antique pieces. The property has a lovely view of the Erie Canal. Each morning there was coffee waiting or us outside our door on a beautifully arranged tray. Then we went down to breakfast. I hate to repeat myself but the table was also beautifully arranged. We tried several different dishes during our stay, each one delicious.
Our host, John and Rebecca, were there for our every need, without being intrusive.
After running around all day It was so relaxing to return to our room each night. We asked several relatives to stop by and see the place. Our Aunt was thrilled as she had driven by hundreds of times and never been inside. She was not disappointed.
One extra point. They have a friendly dog named Riley who helped us forget how much we missed our own pets. We plan to return here each time we return to Syracuse.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jeff M.Chagrin Falls, OH0301Aug 19, 2023
Great people run this B&B. You won't be disappointed. The breakfast is a culinary delight. If we are ever back that way we will be certain to stay there again.

My husband surprised me with a weekend away for my birthday and what a wonderful surprise it was! Anne was amazing, so accommodating and the food, my goodness was it delicious. The mansion is gorgeous and full of the most interesting, time appropriate furnishings. We had the most beautiful view of the snow covered grounds and river. We cannot wait to visit in the summer so that we can spend time on the river.

I wish that I had received the experience in all the reviews I read before booking this bed and breakfast. The reviews all spoke of a warm and welcoming environment with a gracious host and a friendly pup to boot. If I had wanted an impersonal, off hands, unwelcoming environment I would have booked a hotel or an Airbnb.
I am assuming that the change in experience has to do with the fact that the bed and breakfast is currently for sale. Had I been aware of this before confirming my reservation I would have secured alternate lodging.
When confirming my reservation, I stated that my husband and myself would arrive between 3-3:30 pm. When we arrived a few minutes after 3 pm we were unable to access the house. After waiting a few minutes, I called both numbers that were provided in my confirmation e-mail and both numbers went straight to voicemail. After approximately ten minutes of waiting outside and ringing the doorbell a lady opened the door and stated that she was a guest and not the host. She graciously left us inside and stated that no one else was there and that when she had arrived back a short while ago things seemed in disarray.
After waiting inside for about ten more minutes I left another voicemail and sent a text message. At 3:40 pm I heard the side door open, and a lady walked in with other guests behind her. She was surprised to see me and stated that she was told that I wouldn't be arriving until after 5 pm. In our brief conversation she mentioned that the confusion was most likely because the bed and breakfast was for sale. She walked us to our room where the door was already wide open with the key in the lock. She handed me the key and gave me the code to the house. She stated to text her in case of an emergency and that a different person would be there both on Saturday and Sunday to cook breakfast.
In our description of the room it was stated that a coffee tray would be left outside of our door each morning. This was not done and I am not sure if the Keurig that was in our room was to replace this but once again this was not communicated. The information sheet in the room stated that garbage could be left outside of our room on the table and it would be removed however this was also not done. The room was to be refreshed each day according to the information sheet but no one completed this service either.
Overall the environment was just not welcoming and we felt like intruders. The benefit of staying in this type of accommodations over others is a more homey experience and this was certainly not the case. The house itself was beautiful and the room itself was a delight with a comfortable bed and gorgeous furnishings.
I would suggest waiting until this bed and breakfast is sold as the current owners seem to have lost all desire to be gracious hosts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Darren S.Cortland, NY54343Feb 16, 2019
Wow!!!!! I have stayed in a lot of B&B's but this one is in a class of it's own. It is simply gorgeous!!! The room is filled with beautiful antiques, a gas burning fireplace, and a two person jacuzzi tub. The hostess couldnt have been more accommodating either. Breakfast wont be till morning and it's late afternoon now. I would never put up a review so early but the River Edge mansion is so unique and beautiful I just HAD to post. The price was extremely reasonable as well at $224 for the night (that's including tax). The only downside was that the driveway was a sheet of ice and i almost fell. I would normally take a star or two off for that but the mansion is just so beautiful I could give a bit of a break (even though it was quite treacherous). This place is a must stay!!!!

Words cannot express the how gorgeous the rooms are and the phenomenal grounds of this majestic 200 year old home. Could not stop taking pics and sending to family and friends truly elegant and far superior to a hotel. Gourmet food, river boat ride, friendly nonintrusive hosts, and awesome contessa golden lab never known to refuse a treat!
