Playing alongside several future Hall of Famers, George Trotter consistently rose to the occasion, scoring the winning basket at Coe during the 1942 championship season and scoring 18 points in a victory over Beloit while holding the famous Johnny Orr to just 15 points during the 1946-47 season.

A letterman also in track and baseball, his top sport was basketball. Alternating among guard, center and forward, he was a leading rebounder, specializing in tip-ins. In 1947, he was named to the All-Midwest Conference honorable mention squad.

Trotter’s success in athletics did not end with his graduation from Monmouth, as he was also a successful coach in Illinois and California. His commitment to athletics was shown by a naming gift provided by Trotter and his wife for the Trotter Fitness Center in the Huff Athletic Center.
