During our trip to Philadelphia last weekend we took a morning walk down to the harbor at Penn's Landing.

They have three historic ships docked there.

The Schooner Diligence

This ship is actually a fine dining restaurant on the lower decks and night club on the upper deck. The night we left they where going to have circus acts and areal acts on the ship.

It is hard to get a perspective from the photos but the main masts where about 100 feet above the sidewalk, I can't imagine climbing up that rigging.

Cruiser Olympia

The Olympia served as a flagship in the Spanish-American war in 1898. Her final mission was to bring home the body of the unknown solder after World War I. It is currently a museum ship at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philly. Unfortunately we did not get to visit as it was too early in the morning.

Submarine Becuna

According to the Independence Seaport Museum the Becuna served during the end of World War II in the Pacific and is credited with sinking 3 Japanese merchant ships. This ship is also a museum ship that you can tour along with the Olympia.

Typical Torpedo that would have been carried on the Bacuna.

One of the Becuna's propellers. Solid brass!

Next time we are in Philly we are going to definitely take a tour of these two ships.

Checkout this cool little grove of hammocks we found right across from the ships.

howdy tonight @hhayweather! wow I would love to take a tour of those ships! Well I guess the sailing ship is a restaurant but I've love to eat in that restaurant too. I bet that thing looks great at night, I could see it had lights strung up on the masts and lines.
The two war ships would have been fascinating. Hey next time you go just think of the great posting material you'll have!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to going back (ha that is funny "forward to go back" anyway;) I don't know how long my sister will have the boat down there but maybe we can get back there next month. I'll be sure to take a lot of photos to share.

hey that sounds great hhayweaver and go on that ship to eat! that would be super cool also!

Thank you for sharing the pictures of the ships I really enjoy it!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Ships would be neat to visit! Also the hammocks are a fun treat, never seen anything like that before!

I know, there was this cool little park called the Spruce Street Harbor Park right next to the ships Here is a link to some google pictures I found of the same park if you are interested.
