Henry M. Stephenson Jr. passed away on June 20, 2019. He was born in Camden, Texas on January 26, 1942, to Henry and Evelyn Stephenson. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960, Henry served as an airplane mechanic in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he returned to Baytown where he worked as a mechanical craftsman until his retirement from Exxon Refinery in 1997. Henry was a member of First Baptist Church in Baytown.
Henry was a talented man and could build or repair almost anything. A highlight was restoring a 1929 Model A Ford and participating in the Houston Area Model A Club. He loved visiting with friends and neighbors and was always willing to give a helping hand when needed. As a resident of the same neighborhood for over forty years, he thoroughly enjoyed and cared for his neighbors on Redberry Hill Road.
Henry married his high school sweetheart, Martha Bailey, in 1965. They had three daughters. Henry was a dedicated and supportive father and grandfather. He, along with Martha, provided a loving home and enjoyed nothing more than being with his family. Henry will especially be remembered for the important role he played in the lives of their five grandchildren. Much of his retirement years were spent babysitting, supporting them at school events and attending too many baseball and football games to count. Henry gave the grandkids unconditional love, time, and encouragement and their lives have been blessed having him as a grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Besides his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Martha Bailey Stephenson; two brothers, Donald Stephenson and Wilbur Stephenson.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law: Sonja and Stuart Rouse, Carrie and Darryl Fry and Marsha and Tony Cooling; five grandchildren: Kathryn Gerwig and husband Mike, Tyler Fry and wife Mackenzi, Kyle Fry and wife Kaitlyn, Taylor Cooling and wife Neely and Matthew Cooling; one great grandson, Luke Gerwig; one sister, Betty Stephenson Garcia, several nieces and nephews and his friend of many years, Ray Mitchell.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Waterford of Baytown for their dedication, care and compassion.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Friday, June 28, 2019, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Yowell officiating.
