LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - Roughly 3,000 people are expected to celebrate Easter at Laredo’s only state park this Sunday.

The gates to Lake Casa Blanca will open on Sunday at 7 a.m. to families who are looking to grill and spend the holiday under the sun.

Park Superintendent Querubin Guerra said that in order to prevent potential car accidents, law enforcement will close off the turning lane into the park on Saturday at 10 p.m. and will not allow cars to start lining up until 6 a.m. Sunday.

While ‘cascarones’, or Easter Eggs filled with confetti, are a big tradition during the holiday, Guerra said they are not allowed on park grounds.

“Easter Egg confetti is not allowed,” said Guerra. “The confetti itself is littering the park, and obviously confetti and wildlife do not mix, so it’s a big concern if wildlife consumes any confetti so there could be some concerns there. Water balloons are not allowed, alcohol is not allowed, there will be additional law enforcement patrolling also.”

Guerra adds that the park has over 100 picnic shelters that are available on a first come, first served basis.

He reminds people that small portable grills are allowed but ground fires are not allowed.
