Name of the mineral reflects its chemical composition, kalium titanyl arsenate.
Known synthetic analogue (an important linear non-linear optical material). Unique combination of elements. One of a few Ti-As approved minerals, the group also including asbecasite, braithwaiteite, cafarsite, graeserite, hemloite and tomichite; the only Ti-As mineral from the volcanic fumarole environment.
