GREENE COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - An 18-wheeler caught on fire in the right lane of I-20/59 near Boligee, causing major delays on west Alabama roadways.

The burning tractor trailer was located near the Boligee exit at mm 32, just before Eutaw in Greene County.

At one point, traffic was backed up across the Tom Bigbee River almost to the Epes exit in Sumter County.

A video of the scene showed thick black smoke billowing from the 18-wheeler and flames still shooting from the wreckage.

Just before noon, State Troopers said they are letting the truck burn itself out. One lane of I-20/59 is still blocked off.

There is no word yet on the driver's condition or what may have caused the crash.

This wreck happened on the same morning another 18-wheeler crashed into an overpass on I-65 in Clanton and caught on fire, shutting down the interstate for hours. The 18-wheeler was carrying a load of alcoholic beverages, which littered both sides of the interstate after the crash.

The driver in the Clanton crash was said to be seriously injured but expected to survive.
